Observations/advice on 4yr old ds with high temp and "prickley legs"!

My ds who is 4 has had a high temp since Sunday he also has cough/cold. this has been kept under control with calpol/calprofen. Today he has started walking on his toes saying his legs are prickley like a cactus. He indicates pain is in thigh area. Been to DR this morning discussed "irritable hip" but thinks this is unlikely as he has no pain in hips. Temperature has gone up again this evening to 39.4 now fallen asleep on sofa which for him is unheard of. Other than a viral infection any ideas or advice on what ails him and any tips for soothing him. Been up last 4 nights as his temp goes up at about 2.00am. With thanks.

Both my dc have had a wierd virus recently that involved high temperatures and hurty bits in various areas over a period of days. Dd had a really bad headache, then sore legs, then achy chest. Ds had sore calves, then headache, then sore 'everything' if he is to believed.
Both resolved after about a week in total, with liberal helpings of calpol/nurofen. It seemed that the calpol helped the temp best, but nurofen was better for aches, so at times I was alternating the two.
Plenty of sympathy and sofa time needed too.

Thanks bamzooki, I think I get paranoid and start looking for every medical condition under the sun. He woke up on the sofa crying and when I tried to get him to drink he started screaming and trying to hit out...he does not normally do that!! I have put him to bed with just a sheet over him its warm in the house and I managed to get a drink into him. His temp is about 38 now and I gavehim calpol and/calpofren about two hours ago. Just hope its on its way out....

OK, this is strange it is 24 hours later since he started walking on his tip toes better sleep last night temp ok this morning, however he is still walking on tip toe and when he stands with his soles flat on the ground his legs buckle?

Do I take him back to out of hours this morning, I am quite worried?

I would take him back if I were you. I am a great believer in mothers instinct!
Better to be safe than sorry.

Hope he gets better soon.

I would take him back too - The leg buckling sounds worrying.

Hope he's okay.

my dh says I am worrying over nothing he thinks its all to do with whatever virus he has had. He is playing happily and is much better today than he has been all week but I will ring out of hours and speak with the doctor just to put my mind at rest. My dh will be happy!

Glad he is looking a bit better. That's what doctors are there for.
