Doctors not agreeing on cause of rash (photo uploaded)

I'm at my wits end with this rash on DS's foot. He's autistic and non verbal so not able to tell me if it hurts, he doesn't appear to be in discomfort with it but it is obviously itchy.

This has been going on since last summer, we were first told it was ringworm, then psoriasis, then eczema and nobody seems to agree what it actually is.

The larger "ring" started small and has gradually gotten bigger and the smaller ones appeared about two weeks ago. He did have a small amount on his other foot which has now disappeared.

We have another appointment tomorrow and I'm going to ask for a referral to dermatology but just wondering if anyone has any idea what it looks like? Thanks

Sorry ignore me I see you are going to ask for a dermatology referral. That's definitely necessary.

BurbageBrook · 29/01/2024 22:16

It definitely looks a lot like the type of psoriasis my cousin gets. If hydrocortisone helped at first that supports my theory!

Littleroundsponge · 29/01/2024 22:44

Thanks @BurbageBrook I'm thinking it probably is psoriasis. Hopefully have some answers soon!

Oh poor boy. My son has autism too and he was covered. How old is your son?.sorry if you already said. He's now 12 and thankfully has no issues, I don't know why, but putting the cream on was awful for.him (and us)

My five year old has discoid eczema and he's prescribed a steroid cream because it's so itchy. Luckily he asks us for the cream, and the tube has lasted us well over a year. He used to cry because of the itch, and rub his legs together all night, because it was back of his knees, wrists ect.
I'm not sure if it's your camera, but your sons looks a bit more "wet".

I remember I had really good advice on a thread a couple of years ago, if I can find it now I'll screenshot the advice, and Id tried after everything else, and it worked, but obviously there are so many types of eczema, you'll find out what's happening. ❤p.S my dh (their dad) has psoriasis, not sure if it's generic or something to do with autism ect.

My son had something that looked similar when he was younger although it was for a much shorter time, it was on his body and it looked like burns, it looked really sore but didn’t appear to bother him that much, incidentally he is also autistic. The doc thought it was impetigo and gave us antibiotics but it didn’t clear up, went back again and doc called in another doc for a 2nd opinion, not sure what they were discussing but one said “but it can’t be that as he’s too well”, anyway they gave him another course of stronger anti biotic and it seemed to clear it up not had since

Looks like discoid/nummular excema.

Riverblues90s · 30/01/2024 13:36

Thanks @TheOldBazinga He's 15, so hard as he doesn't have the speech to tell us if if it's sore. Glad your DS's cleared up! It can be so hard applying cream with autism as it's such a sensory thing putting something on the skin.

Oh your poor boys, sounds like they've both been through it. Glad you managed to find something that worked for them both!

I'm hoping whatever we're prescribed next does the trick! That would be great if you could find it, I welcome any advice or tips!

Funnily enough my DH has psoriasis too and I did wonder if is that whether it could be genetic!?

Thank you for your lovely reply! 😊

@Morph22010 that's interesting, must have been some type of infection if the antibiotics worked. So hard to get to the bottom of these skin issues especially when doctors say different things. Glad your DS's cleared up.

Just came on to say it looks like ringworm. My daughter had it for months, was really hard to get on top of. Had to be really strict with using the treatment correctly and regularly.

Hope you get it sorted op!

Littleroundsponge · 30/01/2024 20:54

Thanks @pepecanpie101 well been back the GP this evening and she seems to think it is ringworm so been prescribed another anti fungal that also has hydrocortisone in apparently. Hopefully this does the trick! What was your DD prescribed?

pecanpie101 · 31/01/2024 16:47

She was given Daktarin to use on it. Like I said, it took a while but got rid of it completely eventually. My daughter also had it in multiply place so we went through a lot of cream!
