Small pea sized lump on calf

anicecuppateaa · 28/01/2024 20:04

So, I’ve had a tiny lump on my calf for 18 months. After seeing an article (which I now can’t find), I panicked that it was cancerous. It’s pea sized, hard, non moving.

Saw a private GP through work in November who didn’t know what it was but wasn’t worried and referred to dermatologist.

Appt is tomorrow and I’ve realised it’s 2 hours away on the other side of London (booked by axa and I didn’t think to check details). I could trek there but wondering……is this ridiculous? Given it hasn’t changed I’m thinking of seeing my (very good) NHS GP instead…

Anyone had a similar issue and what was the outcome? Thanks!

Just go and get it looked at or you'll kick yourself for delaying if it's cancer

ArchetypalBusyMum · 28/01/2024 20:51

Yes, go.
Make a day out of it if you must, but go.

anicecuppateaa · 28/01/2024 20:56

I had just about convinced myself it was not necessary. Will absolutely kick myself…change of plan then!

DH says its a trek/ it hasn't changed so I feel like I’m overreacting.

Just go! You've got the appt which is the hard bit. Better to be reassured that it really is nothing.

padmo · 28/01/2024 20:58

I have the same thing op but just ignored it so far, maybe I should be worried.

Hope your appointment goes well.

I'm sure it's nothing but my MIL had a lump in her leg and it turned out to be cancerous so make sure you get it checked. She is fine, got it dealt with and is ok but it sounds like you are worrying, I'd go.

abricotine · 28/01/2024 21:16

Sounds like a dermatofibroma and harmless but good idea to get checked to be sure!

anicecuppateaa · 28/01/2024 21:18

I’ve been doing a lot of google panicking since posting. It looks exactly like a dermatofibroma BUT doesn’t dimple so for peace of mind think I will go. Also just checked out the route, its a cool 117 mins (bus/train/2 tubes/ bus/ walk).

thanks for the push to go!

You haven’t got anything if you haven’t got your health!
it’s a risk not worth taking, get it checked, then make the best of your day and travel.
Good luck

You've been given an appointment that other people out there are desperate to have, don't waste that.

Why doesn't your DH want it sorted!

ArchetypalBusyMum · 29/01/2024 06:55

His luck with your appointment today. Hope you have a good book for the journey. 😉

ArchetypalBusyMum · 29/01/2024 06:55

Good luck.

Hope it all goes well today. 💝

Thanks everyone. I’m on my way, only an hour to go and about to brave the Northern line in rush hour. Will update later on appt.

Confirmed all is ok. Dr suggests removing it to test/ confirm but used a special light and says it’s just a harmless growth. Phew. Worth the trek :)

Glad it turned out to be harmless, and so glad you feel reassured and relieved. My DH had a similar lump on his finger that turned out to be a form of skin cancer - squamous cell, and non invasive if caught in time as it’s very slow growing. He was referred to a dermatologist and on to the plastics team at the local hospital who dealt with it very effectively. It’s always worth being vigilant. Lumps and bumps are always scary but we shouldn’t let the fear stop us from seeking help.

Pinkpinkplonk · 29/01/2024 16:52

Your health is always worth the trek.
Glad all is fine

Felicia19 · 29/01/2024 16:56

Glad to hear that all was well.

Ahhhh, peace of mind, you can't beat it. 👌
