Post viral or post steroid fatigue?

I came down with a strange virus 10 days ago (Covid tests negative) whereby I had several days of extreme brain fog and runny nose before the fastest occurring chest infection I've ever had last Sunday, a week ago.

It was quite scary, going from freezing cold shivers and aches to 39.5 within an hour and then just didn't come down below 38 for several days till day 4 of the steroids and abs. Chest was immediately full of gunk and asthma was really bad, I also felt horrific. Really High heart rate and fast breathing. (I had managed to get a Gp appt the next day after the initial start of the chest issues and started steroids and antibiotics.)

I had radiotherapy about 10 weeks ago and Gp wondered if my immunity was a bit low from that (which I wasn't aware it could be.)

I'm still coughing phlegm and using MART inhaler regime and I don't think it's bacterial now. But I'm exceptionally washed out and have lost some weight I didn't need to loose.

It's been many years since I had a steroid course and I can't remember if you can feel a bit tired after those? I'm trying to work out how soon I am going to be back to 'normal'. I hate taking them, they make me jittery and dizzy. Or if it's the infection that has wiped me.

I was due to return to work v soon which I was excited about, following cancer treatments. But I feel this has set me back. I'm seeing Gp next week to discuss.

Such a short course of steroids wouldn't leave after effects. It sounds to me like you've been very unwell and are being a bit over optimistic about how long recovery takes?
Have you had a chest x-ray? Maybe pneumonia?

Thanks, hopeful over optimism is very likely. Sick of being sick. Extremely frustrated!

Also on tamoxifen which can make me a bit more tired I think; hard to tell as radio definitely did.

I think it may be too soon for x ray, I've had them before. But at least have Gp appt next week anyway. Chest still quite noisy.

ABs usually work quite quickly for me when I've a chest infection and I often feel a lot better quite quickly.

I'm also not making much sense so probably need to be honest with myself!

I had a very similar virus a year ago. Felt almost as bad as when I wa in hospital with covid.
Tamoxifen seems to make many people feel grim without the addition of a chest infection. Rest and look after yourself.
