Isolated days of unexplained fatigue and malaise

I've been experiencing what I call 'down days' for the past few years. I've never been able to work out what triggers them and I wonder if anyone else experiences the same.

On these days, I feel overcome with exhaustion and a feeling of heaviness in my limbs and body, as if I'm wearing a suit of armour.

My brain is foggy and listless, I'm just sapped of all zing and vigour. Emotionally I feel really down, demotivated and despondent.

The odd thing is, the next day I'll be back to my normal energetic and optimistic self.

It happens every 1-2 weeks. I thought it might be menstrual related but there's no consistent pattern.

My GP has done standard bloodwork and all seems fine. She wondered if it might be chronic fatigue syndrome, but from my understanding sufferers experience symptoms for days or weeks at a stretch, not just a single day at a time.

Just wondering if anyone else suffers similarly, and if so whether you have found a solution.

I've had this since my teens (now mid forties). Since a total burnout in 2016, it had been happening for months at a time. I was diagnosed with ADHD two years ago and meds have changed my life. Might be worth investigating?

This happens to me as well! Totally relate to the description as well. I have always assumed it’s menstrual related but come to think of it, I recently got a new job, and I haven’t had one in the couple of months since then…so maybe stress related?! I dunno 🤷‍♀️

Funny you should mention ADHD. I am currently awaiting an NHS assessment for this. Inattentive subtype.

Sorry to drip feed, but it hadn't occurred to me there might be a link! I am a similar age too, 43.

Perhaps I should reconsider the private route to speed things up...

Thank you @Mythnames. It's good to know I'm not alone in experiencing this. Fingers crossed the change of job continues to help.
