Is a temperature in adults virus related? (Neg Covid test)

Hi all,

My DS started nursery this year and is bringing home every big and virus under the sun. My baby DD has had a virus/cold the past week and my son. Over the past few days I seemed to have developed it too. Typical headache, runny nose etc. COVID test negative.

However I now have a temperature of 38.1 although I've just taken 2 paracetamol so hoping that'll come down. I know LOs get temperatures with viruses and they are common - is this the same for adults? Because prior to this I've been having dreadful 'periods pains', a good week before my period, during my period and still now it's finished (was unfortunate enough to have my period and this virus at the same time!). It's like cramps down where my c section scar is and now I have a temperature of 38.1. I'm shivering and feel cold.

Basically am wondering if the two are likely to be related or am I just fighting off a bug? I never get fevers!

Yes a temperature with a virus is normal

Yes perfectly normal. I wouldn't try to bring your temperature down, it's not that high and your body needs to raise its core temperature to fight off the virus. I know people on MN tend to rush for paracetamol at the first hint of a temperature, but much better to let it run its course unless it gets too high (say when it is nearly 39C.)
