Is it an ulcer or....

Last year I came down with what seemed like an ulcer and was prescribed Omeprazole for a few weeks. That seemed to sort the problem but then the problem came again. This time it took longer to treat with Omeprazole. Again a few weeks before Christmas it returned. This time Omeprazole isn't really helping much and some days are fine and some are not.

My question, really, is this: my symptoms have been described by my GP as unusual because what I feel isn't pain or burning sensation as such. I just feel something akin to hunger. You know that empty stomach sensation you get when you've not eaten for many hours? Or maybe it's closer to feeling , that need to fill my stomach to stop the sensation....

Anyone else had this before? Am glad I don't feel pain as such but it's hard not to overeat and is quite distracting. I could have a perfectly good meal in terms of size and then within minutes feel like I need to eat again.

I am currently being treated for a stomach ulcer. My symptoms felt like hunger pangs at first.

When I finally went to the GP they did a test for helicobacter (a common cause of ulcers) which was negative, then I had an ultrasound of gallbladder and kidneys (normal), then they put me on Omeprazole which gave temporary relief, but the discomfort came back when I stopped taking it. I left it for ages after that as I assumed it was related to menopause, but then I became anaemic, so was sent for an endoscopy, where they found an ulcer.
The ulcer is proving stubborn and hasn't healed after first round of treatment. Now on even higher strength of omeprazol in the hopes of healing it.
Only telling you all this so you can see what you might expect from your GP - it doesn't sound like they are doing much to help you, and if you do have an ulcer, better to catch it earlier than have a chronic scenario like me.

@Wellthatsit thank you for responding and sharing your experience. Good to know I'm not the only one. I'm off Omeprazole for 2 weeks so they can test for infection and I'll bear in kind what you said if it comes back negative as well.
