Evening mn, hoping someone might be able to offer some reassurance..

I'm ill atm, started yesterday. My 2 under 2 have been snotty and coughing for nearly a week so obviously come from them. I was really feverish in the night and this morning but that seems to have passed. Generally feeling pretty rough, throat and back of nose a bit sore, head feels thick. Neck felt very stiff and achy this morning, but okay now. The thing that's making me a little unsure is that I have what I can only describe as a juddery feeling in my head/brain, particularly when I move, or turn my head. Almost like it takes a second for my brain to catch up with my skull as it moves?!

The only time I've experienced anything similar was when I was coming off of venlafaxine and got brain zaps (not taking medication currently so unrelated to this specific symptom). It feels similar to that, but a little more juddery as opposed to zappy (I have no idea if that will make sense to anyone at all 😂). Does anyone have a clue what I'm on about and can reassure me that it's fine?! Thanks in advance

I alwayssss get this exact feeling when I'm really ill! It's like you turn your head and then your brain has to catch up in jolts, my brother gets it too. Would love to know what it actually is!

I sometimes get this when I have a temperature.

Killerqueenie · 25/01/2024 18:20

I get like this when I have a bad cold and bunged up sinuses. It's a horrible feeling. Just make sure to drink plenty fluids as your body uses up so much to produce snot 🤧 and paracetamol can sometimes take the edge off it.

Could it be Lhermitte's sign?

AndSoFinally · 25/01/2024 20:20

It's to do with the little hairs in your ears getting gummed up when you're ill. It's a type of vertigo

NealBrose · 25/01/2024 21:08

I get this when I'm ill too, usually with a fever. No idea what it is but definitely not L'hermittes sign which feels completely different and is related to spinal cord damage (I have MS so have firsthand experience!)

Thanks everyone, very reassuring to know other people have experienced it when ill 👍 I wonder why it happens. Feelings mostly gone today and generally feeling better thank goodness, it's awful looking after poorly small people while also ill!!

@AndSoFinally it did actually make me think a bit of vertigo!

My head felt like this when I had covid. My whole body began vibrating inside as well. Very strange.

Hi OP, I get these brain vibrations and twitchy feelings as part of my movement disorder called tardive dyskinesia, which is a bit like Tourette's and Parkinson's disease combined. (It was caused by some prescribed off label antipsychotic after a head injury and post concussion syndrome).

I think it's neurological and I'm pretty certain it's something to do with brain chemistry/neurotransmitter and more specifically, dopamine. A lot of people who get "brain zaps" coming off psychotropic drugs describe the same symptoms that you do, and it seems particularly likely that people who also have the drug induced neurological disorder called akathisia get them too.

I've also heard that some cases of Covid can trigger brain zaps and internal vibrations, as the virus has been shown to affect the part of the brain that controls movements ie the basal ganglia, and this also affects dopamine functions too.

I'm wittering on a bit now, sorry! I could be totally wrong, but in my 9 years experience of having a movement disorder and doing lots of research, your symptoms sound very familiar.

Yep, this example is exactly what i was saying in my reply above.

Fizzadora · 26/01/2024 22:11

Yep we've got this in our family right now. I struggle with my ears and air pressure anyway but this is worse than usual. Even my 2 1/2 year old DGD was rubbing her head today saying what's wrong with my ears. She's been being sick too.

Gggnnn · 21/05/2024 01:32

I get this when over tired. Could be due to not getting enough sleep maybe?

Could be due to being overtired. Are you getting enough sleep?
