Benenden Health - how to tell them updated medical history?

Hoping someone else here either works there or uses them and can advise?
This week I was diagnosed via NHS with a fairly major health issue. I signed up to BH about 5.5months ago, so couldn't use them to fast-track the diagnosis as I need to wait (annoyingly) until the last day of Jan for that to "open".

How do I go about updating them about this new issue? Also, going forward, will this issue put my monthly payments up or does it depend if I use them for something going forward? Will they offer me things connected to my new health problem once I tell them or do I have to do my own research and digging to see what I might have available?

Sorry for the questions, I think I thought I would sign up more for the ability to speak to a GP 24hrs a day without realising I would actually have such a big health problem within a year, so feel a bit at sea with what I might use them for in reality!

You don’t need to tell them anything, Benenden cover pre-existing conditions so it doesn’t affect your cover. It’s a set price that doesn’t change as it’s not ‘proper’ insurance. From what I can remember everything is covered after 6 months.

Yes, the 6 months is how long I needed to wait to get tests done. So if I want scans or bloods in the future, related to my current new diagnosis, I must have to tell them at some point? Or do I do that when I register/ask for a certain test or scan only? I can prove when it was diagnosed.

No, you only need to tell them when you actually ask for the diagnostics that you want relating to the condition. You won’t need to prove anything as Benenden don’t operate like real health insurance does

@MaloneMeadow thanks for that. I think I was expecting to have to declare it and assumed they'd act more like real insurers, as you say.
