thrush - so I tried the garlic and tea tree thing

and the stinging pain was worse than the itching pain. Also the thread pulled out through the garlic, luckily it was easy to retrieve.

I may have nicked the garlic when peeling - would that have caused it? Sadly have run out of garlic and can't try again.

So far I have had canestan and pessaries, a canestan tablet, live yoghurt and pro biotic tablets. Have virtually no sugar in my food but will try and cut out yeast too.

Have had 4 lots of antibiotics recently which is the cause; cos have had not thrush in over 4 years.

Haven't had a full nights sleep in a week, (just as my baby started sleeping through too)

poor you. i'm suffering with it too cos of antibiotics, what's the garlic thing? tell me its not what it sounds like!!!

OrmIrian · 20/03/2008 21:06

When I get it really badly, I just dab the tea tree oil on undiluted. It stings like hell but really helps.

I've never found yoghurt to help much.

Could you see your GP? If none of the conventional stuff works. I once had canesten with hydracortisone which was fantastic. My SIL ended up with candida overgrowth and it invaded her entire system. If you are tired and run down (ie with a new baby) it can happen.

msappropriate · 21/03/2008 08:55

moodlesoup search for it, it probably is what it sounds like!

Ive got gyno-daktarin now, an overnight pessary and a cream which worked for me years ago but I put it in last night and it stings too! It didn't last time. Thanks for the hydracortisone suggestion. Will be back to the gp (I spend my life there!) next wk asking for it.

Have you tried Diflucan? You can buy it over the counter. Boots do their own version which is much cheaper (Diflucan is around £12!).

TheBlonde · 21/03/2008 09:03

You can get some tablets called grapefruit seed extract - supposed to be v good for thrush

constancereader · 21/03/2008 09:09

tannlbit is very good, but quite expensive.

msappropriate · 21/03/2008 09:12

I tried canestan tablets which has fluconazole in it whish I think is the same as diflucan.

Will try the grapefruit seed thing

is tannlbit on prescription or over the counter?

this is the stuff - I tried consuming the liquid first but it was quite foul

have you tried cutting out sugar and wheat/yeast? Those are the only things Candida live off so if you eliminate them completely for a few days they will die. It is far more effective than any drugs as you get to the root of the problem. You may get a headache - this is the bad bacteria ( candida) 'dying off' and is a good sign.
