Mum's Attendance Allowance

Mum's award was for 12 months and her first review is due in April. Can anyone who's had experience of this tell me how this is carried out please?
I've read online that the forms need to be completed again but they are so lengthy! Is this always the case?
Her condition remains exactly the same apart from pain ramping up. I'm hoping someone in here has recently helped with a reclaim or has reclaimed themselves. Thank you.

The review is a paper exercise. My MIL has had AA for several years, we've never had to redo the forms.

My mum now deceased had AA awarded back in 2012. Unless it has changed she never had to fill in a form again. She just got a letter each April stating what the new amount would be and I think just to let them know if anything had changed. It was a generic letter sent to everyone as far as I know.
Mum still received AA@ when in a home as she was self funding.

I haven't done AA for years... but if its similar to the kids one DLA then the forms will be the same as the originals - copying the form from the last one is absolutely acceptable - just update the pain/meds and medical contacts etc then cut and past the rest!

Ah thank you all so much. That's reassuringto know. I'm really hoping it will be a simple procedure. Don't know why I'm anxious because my mum still needs it badly and has never claimed for anything until last year. Thanks again!

Yes the form needs to be filled in again. But if she's unlikely to get better that can be added to the form and the dwp should then give a lifetime award.

I'm sorry, I forgot to check back after my last post so missed the last reply.
We haven't heard anything or received a letter so I will call them this week. Mum's condition is unlikely to improve. Thank you all.

Just an update - my mum's review only happened last month in the end. Forms were sent in on a couple of weeks ago and we've already received notice that she is to continue receiving attendance allowance. We're amazed at the speed of reply and very grateful for the help!
We've noticed that there is no specific award period this time (eg. 12months) so has anyone any experience of such a change? Is she likely to receive it long term or might we still receive forms next year?
Thank you.

Anyone please?

Hi OP I'm a welfare benefits advisor. I'd say around 90% of AA awards are indefinite, it's just where they think there may be the possibility of an applicant regaining the function to carry out personal care tasks in the medium term that they issue a time limited award.

Onlyforaday · 08/06/2024 07:20

That's very reassuring. Thank you so much. I am just off to see her now and it should settle her to know that. It seems to be all she worries about; when the next "investigation" will be. It took a few years for her to be persuaded to apply and it was her GP who convinced her in the end!

Back home again and she was so relieved to hear the likely future requirements.
