my step dad is 70
drinks every single night
still works full time
probably a bit overweight

but I’m worried coz he keeps complaining of tingling in his left arm and dizzy spells

now today he’s announced the tingling is in his lips too

I’ve told him to call GP but being a typical man. I’ll obviously push him to call asap.

in the meantime what could be going on? Should be worried and alert his actual adult children to get him to see a GP?

Sounds concerning. Are you with him? Can you can 111 with his permission?

PennysLane · 23/01/2024 20:14

I am with him. I live here. This has actually been going on for some time. But I feel it’s escalating. But I dunno into what

Sounds like he needs to see someone fairly urgently - 111 tonight would probably be best at this time of day. Main thing that needs excluding is angina/heart attack. Good luck getting him to see someone - men of a certain age can be a nightmare to get to a doctor (often a dysfunctional way of dealing with anxiety)!

Mrsjayy · 23/01/2024 20:15

yes I would let his children know he is not well, but you can't force him to see the GP it could be angina or high blood pressure or something. My sd was ill for weeks before we had to get a Dr out to him it was bloody Frustrating that he wouldn't go. and ended up quite ill.

Deathbyathousandcats · 23/01/2024 20:15

Sounds reminiscent of angina. Of course he needs to see someone, but whether he does or not is up to him of course.

Deathbyathousandcats · 23/01/2024 20:16

And you can only call 111 with his consent, and it’s only worthwhile doing so if he’ll act on their advice.

He needs to be properly assessed by a doctor.

Alcoholism can inhibit absorption of nutrients especially vitamins. Low levels of Vit B6, and several others, can cause neurological problems like pins & needles, etc.
