...which has shrunk the piles.

But what will make them actually go?

(and yes, I have name changed )

Another wussy name-changer. Tch!

Keep on with the cream/suppositories for as long as necessary. Straining for a poo will push them out again so avoid getting constipated. Get in the habit of drinking lots of water - 2 litres a day if you can manage it. Eat lots of fruit & fibre, a few dried prunes a day will help a lot. Some people take Lactulose to keep poo soft but I've never tried it.

Too much iron equals hard, dark poo. So if you take a tablet form iron supplement try switching to Spatone sachets instead. Limit your Guinness intake.

Rest: Particularly if you're pregnant/post-natal then you need to rest, being on your feet all day won't help.

Exercise: At least 30 minutes non-stop walking a day. Yoga is good for the digestive system too.

Good luck!

And time! They do go completely in time but I think once you've had piles, it's easier to get them again.

Constant vigilance!

Very spring like!

Do you mean applying the cream

Is it steroid cream?

Ime, it takes about a fortnight...I had a prolapsed one that caused me loads of grief but it did shrink and disappear eventually.

I take psyliium husks from the health food shop if I think I might need it...

However, plenty of water, herbal tea, and fruit & veg is usually enough.

dizzychixies · 19/03/2008 20:18

loads of water and when you go to toilet sit with your feet up e.g. on upturned basin or child's step etc

only go when you need and and ffs no straining!!

haven't managed to get rid of mine since giving birth to dd1 nearly 5yrs ago but there are ways of managing them

stleger · 19/03/2008 20:38

Putting your feet on a footstool while going apparently aids 'evacuation'.

From my slight experience of post natal ones the advice you have been given is the cure...but if they are really bad, my brother had thrombotic prolapsed ones until recently..his consultant made him have 5 weeks of complete bed rest and sugar poultices (yes! sugar!) to reduce them enough to operate on.(Oh yes, they were that bad, apparently...I didnt want to examine them myself..though he offered!) Since the op he has been on a strict diet to stop them returning including porridge for breakfast. Hope they clear up for you quickly.
