Family have sick bug and I have surgery tomorrow

Hi
Wonder if anyone has any idea or could offer advice.
I have surgery tomorrow to remove endometriosis which I have been waiting on a long time. I am having it done on the nhs but at a private hospital. I have to be there for 7.30am and it's over an hours drive away. My children have had a cough and cold last week but last night one of my 2 years old was sick and high temperature and now one of my other children is feeling sick and so is my husband. I tried to ring the hospital but they are not open till 7.30 tomorrow morning.
My procedure is a day case but we have no help so my husband will be looking after the girls and taking me there. I know it says that if you yourself are I'll your procedure will likely be cancelled but just wondered if anyone knew what happens of your family have a contagious bug.
Thanks in advance I'm just over thinking and worrying now and it seems bad cancel when I'm supposed to be there but if my husband gets it I won't be able till get there and I may get it too and I don't want to spread it about if I'm contagious but not showing symptoms. Sorry for the ramble

Oh that’s really difficult, as you don’t want to be throwing your guts up post abdominal surgery! Not like you said making other patients ill.

The hospital day unit will be closed until the morning but they’ll have a ward maybe someone can give you some advice? Or set out in the morning if well and phone?

Chances are if your DH starts vomiting then he won’t be able to take you anyway and they’ll want to cancel.

With everyone affected not just you they would probably recommend cancelling to keep you safe.

so difficult and I know that I’ve not really helped answer your question but didn’t want to read and run!

Oh, and they would much rather you cancel at the time you are due than you arrive vomiting! People cancel all the time and other people get moved up/can have longer surgeries etc. Don’t worry if you feel you need to cancel, they won’t mind and will be glad tou are sensible.

Thanks for that I'm getting the feeling I'm going to have to cancel the way the kids are x

unless it's literally just a day case clinic there will be someone somewhere on a surgical ward at the hospital who can advise today (maybe ask to be put through to the gynae/gen surgery ward). If you really can’t get through then best bet is probably to see how you feel in the morning - if you’ve not got it yourself and have to leave before anyone answers the phone then head to the hospital but phone from the car park to make sure they’re still happy to proceed. If you’ve got it by then then cancel. Any chance the children have Covid?
