Colonoscopy prep - logistics

Two of us in the house, one of us has chronic IBS and the other has to do colonoscopy prep on two consecutive days. We only have one loo. How are we going to manage?

Is the person doing the prep going to be on the loo for hours at a time? What's the other one supposed to do if they have no access to the loo?

I have heard of people booking into a Premier Inn in this situation. There's one round the corner as it happens, but would that be overlooking it?

This is really bothering me, so any advice/experiences would be welcome.

Thank you

The person taking the prep will be going to the toilet a lot, but quickish visits with time inbetween. I managed with only one toilet in the house. It's probably the sort of thing you will overthink but cope well with when it's happening! Good luck.

I'd say the one having bowel Prep will need toilet approx 2 hours after taking Prep, maybe for an hour or so, and lots of visits within that hour. It's grim. Take care

Portapotty? Commode? Bucket with a lid?

Or tena pants maybe. I wasn't continuously on the loo with my prep but v short notice to 'go' and absolutely wouldn't have been able to wait. V lucky to have more than one loo. Tbh though and I know this is really grim, but if the other person was on the loo it's so liquidy you could go in the bath/shower and just bleach it afterwards. Sorry Blush

Personally prefer my home comforts (and own loo!) so if needs be I'd send the other person to the hotel.

You could get a basic camping loo as a backup but I reckon you'll manage. The main issue is that when the prep is working at its peak you have no time to wait for the toilet to become available.

I've stayed in a Premier Inn the night before a colonoscopy as I wasn't sure I'd manage the 2hr journey after the prep. It works well in terms of having the bathroom close to the bedroom so no distance to walk to the loo.
