On Monday the parent of a mindee arrived handed her over and said "have a snotty crusty child!" She said mindee had runny eyes but she had cleaned her face and looked ok. As the day went on, the goo coming out of the eyes increased and was yellow-ish green in the corners of her eyes and also in the eyelashes.

I let mum know that she needed to get something from her GP to sort out the conjunctivitis. She insists it isn't conjunctivitis as mindee has had it a few times before (the GP just said she had sticky eyes), and also because mindee doesn't have red eyes, only goo. She bought Chloramphenicol from the chemist and has been putting drops in but the goo persists.

How can I tell if it definitely is conjunctivitis?

Our docs won't give out anything for conjunctivitis now apart from a leaflet explaining how it is a 'self-limiting' situation and that there is no need to exclude children because of it.
Understandably imo nurseries/CMers are having none of it which just results in many days off work for parents!

if it was conjunctivitis, the chloramphenical would have got rid of it, if it was bacterial. But then you dont know if shes putting them in enough? I'm currently trying to get DS through a course and its a NIGHTMARE.

Mine has red eyes though with it.

Has she said that she has any allergies?

Mine has been allowed to go back to nursery now the discharge has dissapeared.

Oh, and meant to say, most kids cases are bacterial I think.
