So i am 34 , non drinker and for past twelve months i have a ferritin ranging between 238-390 . Its currently 238 . Im not overweight and do not drink and all blood tests are normal . Any ideas what this could be and should i be worried ?
bit of background , my baby is now 18 months but during pregnancy My ferritin was actually 6 and i had 2 iv iron transfusions at 30 weeks pregnant . Could this be the cause ?! Gp just keeps adding note saying repeat in 3 months but getting concerned ?!

Ask a gp and if they cant tell u - ask them to ask a gastro consultant

I’m not a doctor. However your levels are coming down, albeit slowly. Your body can’t get rid of excess iron, which is why you have to be careful with supplementation. Potentially you could donate blood, and see what happens after that?

High ferritin can be a reflection of inflammation rather than iron stores so might be linked to your autoimmune/rheumatology stuff... a question for your Rheumatologist? It's not high enough to suggest Haemochromatosis. I'm a GP. X

Correct! I have fluctuating high ferritin 280-489 due to an autoimmune disease. Ferritin is a protein that stores the iron. I have low ish fe serum iron though. Have you had other inflammatory markers checked ie RA, lupus sle, Sjogrens, vasculitis? A referral to haematology and rheumatology?
