I have a number of raised lymph nodes. One behind my ear which has been there for four years and then a couple under my chin and one in my groin that I found in September.

I saw a very nice GP in October, they said the lumps felt soft so wasn’t too concerned but did a full blood test. The blood test was a FBC and checked my liver, kidneys etc. Results were all normal.

Went back 8 weeks later as instructed as the lumps were still there. I’ve been referred for an ultrasound but apparently it’ll take months. The GP didn’t seem too worried and I don’t think I am really either but was worried that I’m being too laid back and I should be pushing for a more urgent referral?

For full disclosure I also have some neck pain in the side but that comes and goes so I think it’s muscular or stress related as I’m sure it’s worse when I’m working (laptop based job). I don’t think it’s lymph node related.

Hi, firstly I understand your worry. I have multiple swollen nodes & have been that way for months - years. Ones in my neck following a lot of bouts of tonsillitis & throat infections years ago.
bloods done multiple times all clear, I paid for a private US to scan my neck / collar bones etc and all within normal limits, size wise 4mm for eg and all haven’t gone down at all but also have not gotten bigger or no other symptoms appeared. I would say definitely get the ultrasound done as any concerning elements would show up. If there were a way that maybe you could go private for a faster scan maybe do that for your own peace if nothing else. I think from reading so many forums & bouts of health anxiety around this subject that it’s actually fairly common & a lot of people just are hyper fixated so don’t notice as we do. How do they feel to you? X

I was just told to do my normal monthly checks and anything new changes wise in size or new symptoms to go back to the GP x I believe a lot of the time it’s a watch and wait situation for unexplained nodes x

Thank you, that's really helpful.

They feel ok to me, they aren't getting bigger, which is the main thing I guess. Also, who knows how long they've been there I only noticed them in September but they could've been there a lot longer than that!

I haven't had any illness for quite awhile, so I don't think they would've popped up after then, but then saying that my children do get viruses so I perhaps picked something up but never actually knew that I've had a virus if you see what I mean.

I'll definitely go to the scan, but suspect it will be a few months .

You're right about fixating on it. My husband said he would never even find them so if I hadn't of been doing some sort of check, I wouldn't have even known.

@morellamalessdrama hello, I’m going through similar at the minute and feeing very stressed. How are you doing now? Did you have an ultrasound done?

morellamalessdrama · 11/04/2024 15:59

I'm on the waiting list for an ultrasound. Doesn't look like it's happening any time soon...
