Worth flu vaccine at this point?

I had a bad cold in mid Decembe, then DH and I were both very ill at Christmas with what I think was flu (he tested for Covid and it was negative). I still have a bit of a cough/phlegm on my chest which I wake up with in the night.

We hadn't had flu vaccines this year as had been expecting a call from the NHS for the first time as we both have turned 50. However, didn't receive this and in the end I looked up and realised the NHS was no longer doing 50-64 year olds (though have extended children from just primary to secondary school up to year 11/age 16).

My inclination is to head down to Boots or similar for a flu vaccine, but is it moot now we've been ill? Any comments welcome.

I think it's always worth getting the flu vaccine - you may think you've already had it, but it could have been any nasty virus. It's still only January, plenty of time for flu to strike before spring. I've had real flu (as opposed to a bad cold) a few times and it is hell, plus the recovery period can be weeks. Since starting the jabs a decade ago . . no flu. Best £12 (or thereabouts) I spend all year!

If you have a Superdrug nearby that does it, then sign up to their health and beauty card (it’s free) and it will only cost £8.79. Much cheaper than anywhere else.

I hope it's worth it, as I had it yesterday! (And the Covid vaccine.) Never got an invitation or text this year from our health centre. I am under the target age and don't have any relevant health issues, but I'm surprised they didn't send a text outlining the other categories eligible. I got them on the NHS by explaining that I am a carer for my 91yo mother. Most of our local pharmacies had no stock, but fortunately one very large one still had both. Good luck tracking one down.
