My 3.5 year old son has a under developed pituitary gland, which controls all the bodies hormones, hes already lost the hormone which regulates the water within the body, now been told hes growth hormone deficient and hes being admitted to see if he is producing cortisol.

Anyone out there got a child with these problems? I know its pretty rare and havent posted on here for ages but thought id give it a go

Sort of, my daughter has a genetic disorder and is on Growth Hormone. She does produce GH herself but doesn't utilise it normally.

Hope his study goes well!

hi, can you tell me anything about it? sorry to hear about your daughters problems, i hope she is well.

apparently you have to have the injection in the evenings daily. i already do an injection in the evening for his other problem, but im thinking i will have to do that one in the morning so its not 2 at night! has your daughter had any side affects at all? has she grown? sorry so many questions. i have read on the internet that some children dont respond to GH treatment.

Thanks for your reply

No probs brandy!

My daughter has Prader-Willi Syndrome. Her hypothalamus is buggered and apparently most children with PWS either don't produce enough GH themselves, or what they do produce isn't utilised normally. We didn't have to undergo cortisol deficiency testing as GH is approved as a treatment for PWS children.

We give her an injection nightly in her legs, it's a pen system so really easy to use, you just twist it to set the dose, put the fine needle in her leg and push the top to deliver the GH.

We've had no side effects, she is under the care of a paediatric endocrinologist who is fab, we see her every 4-6 months. She has yearly bloods and a yearly wrist X-ray to ensure her bone growth isn't too accelerated. She has grown nicely and is taller than her sister was at that age
