How long is this virus going to last? (Not Covid)

Work up Saturday morning with what I assumed was a bit of a hangover from half a bottle of wine the night before. Aching body but I’d been exercising so thought nothing of it.

By lunchtime it was clear it was some sort of virus, throat felt raw and sore and by evening I was coughing and sweating and feeling nauseous.

Since then I’ve had a constant throbbing headache that paracetamol/ibuprofen doesn’t quite get rid of, wheezing and coughing (I am a bit asthmatic anyway) and I am sweating all the time, despite having a normal temperature. I can get out of bed long enough to make a light meal but am completely exhausted and have to lie straight back down again afterwards. appetite is shot anyway.

I have had a flu jab so I wonder if this is a milder version of flu- a doctor once told me that you know you have flu if someone put £10k on a table across the room and said you could have it if you could go and get it. I’m not that bad! And no fever. But my nose isn’t blocked so this doesn’t feel like a standard “bad cold”.

I figured that it was just a case of rest and wait, but I’m on day 5 now and my head hurts as much as it did on day 1. I’ve got work to do and need to get back to sharing school run and all the other parenting stuff with my poor husband, who has been doing it all.

Covid test was negative.

Not sure what I am hoping to achieve from this post really-similar experiences I guess?

Very similar to @PortiaWithNoBreaks here except I've been cold rather than hot! I had Covid weeks ago and still have some sort of "lingering lurgy" with sneezing, a weird cough, ears blocked, sinus headache, sore throat, lethargy.....I slept for 9.5hours solid last night and I still feel like I could go back to bed. It's not been as bad as flu (but i've had a flu jab) but I'm just not 100% well and haven't been for about 6 weeks now.

Hate to say it OP, I’m on week 4 now and I’ve had a round of antibiotics for my cough (I have suppressed immunity). I’m still coughing a bit, but not as bad. The brain fog is clearing slowly. I’m still a little congested, but it’s much better. I’ve had awful anxiety as well.

I’m on week 1, it’s awful. I’ve not felt this ill for so long since I had glandular fever. The worst bit is the cough, I think it’s turned into a chest infection. The only time I feel vaguely human is in the shower or the bath because the steam helps the mucus.
Any tips for the best combination of medicines to take?

I hate to tell you, I started on December 15th and lost Christmas week to it.

I am up on my feet since, but I am exhausted.

You are not alone, loads here on the thread I started thinking I was the only one.

Hate to tell you, I am now on week nine and only starting to feel okish, I am retired and taking it very easy, if I had to work, I suspect I would be starting to feel ok.

We've been unwell with this since 23rd December none of us are totally over it yet. I've lost a stone and DH almost two. I had to rest yesterday after changing the bed 🤕

My OH got it, gave it to me, I gave it to my 89 year old mum. Spent 8hrs in A and E with her Wednesday night. She was tested for everything, she has flu. She’s still in hospital, on oxygen and nebulisers. There’s nothing else they can give her as antibiotics won’t work. Nurses on her ward told me it’s as bad as it’s ever been for flu this year.
