Ear problems - getting desperate - anything I haven't thought of?!!

DD (2.5) has had ongoing earache for nearly 3 months since mid Dec, which flares up (causing high temperature) every week and a half or so when she picks up a new cold (she started nursery in jan so this also isnt helping).

Generally there is no evidence of infection just inflamed ears. However she was given AB's after 2nd one (amoxycyclin) and it just came back a week later. We have started seeing a cranial osteo (2nd visit today) and i have been using Mullein oil in her ears since last week. However this morning, like clockwork she has woken up with a high temp again (she had a slight snotty nose this weekend and it always follows on a couple of days later). She has hardly eaten since all this started (has feeding issues anyway and is now dropping weight) so her immune system is suffering (i supplement with vit drops and now also she is having extra zinc/vit c drops too). She is on a dairy free diet too.

I start work in a new job in 2.5 weeks and aside from my worries about her , this is going to be impossible if she is off nursery at least every other week.

I am getting so desperate that i feel like going back to GP for AB's but i know they are very unlikely to help and will just further run her down.

Running out of ideas fast. I expect her to get the odd virus etc partic given starting nursery, but this is pretty much constant.

thanks for any suggestions at all!

ps sorry meant to ask. Even though there is no evidence of infection, should i assume there is infection because of the presence of a temperature?

when dd was young, she suffered from ear infections a lot. she would get one, take all manner of different antibiotics. and then whoosh she would get another one.
finally we saw the E.N.T consultant. he decided that most likely rather than being separate ear infections, it was the same one.
so he put her on prophylactic antibiotics for about a year.(very low dose) and touch wood she hasn't had one since.
just thought i would share in case it helped.

sorry should have said. dd has sn and her healing isn't good.

thanks 2shoes. We went to the osteo this morning who confirmed her ears are red (though not obviously infected, once again). Her feeling was that given the amount of time this has been going on, and the issues with my jobs and with DDs diet that we should bite the bullet and consider AB's alongside the cranial treatment. She isnt pro them but thinks it is going to take a while for DD's immune system to be able to do the job itself.

goodo
It is worth a try as sometimes these things take ages to get sorted.

My firends son had the same problem as your dd and was also given prophylactic antibiotics. It did work.

Well am now throughly confused! Went to GP this evening and he says ears barely red now. He wants to test for a urine infection just in case that is causing the temperatures. I was sure it was her ears again as it follows the pattern and she has been sticking her fingers in them today (when we saw GP last monday after last bout of temperature the ears were def inflamed).
