I wonder if anyone can reassure as I've read conflicting info online.
My GP is sending me for a colposcopy after seeing a white spot and what she thinks is an ectropion when viewing my cervix. It's not a 2 week wait appointment but she said it should only be a few weeks.
A bit of background. I'm 56 and have a long history of abnormal bleeding, initially due to fibroids which have been operated on 3 times and keep growing back, and more recently perimenopause. I went to the GP as my bleeding pattern has changed a bit lately - periods coming close together again after starting to space out. I was sent for a transvaginal ultrasound to check on the fibroids and see if anything else going on. I've also had a recent normal smear.
Ultrasound came back normal apart from a few small fibroids. However, I recently randomly checked my cervix and thought I felt a pea sized lump. I mentioned it when seeing GP for the ultrasound results assuming anything untoward would've showed up on the scan. She said that ultrasound is actually not very good at visualising the cervix and asked to take a look, which is when she saw the spot/possible ectropion (said it looked vascular?).
Should I be concerned or is this standard procedure? Some sites say they always confirm ectropion via colcopscopy, others say it's so common a GP may not even bother mentioning it if they spot one while doing an examination or smear.
