Mine are menstrual without aura, have had them over 20 years, used to get one or two a month, then at perimenopause went up to between 5 and 9 and now probably in menopause back to about 3 or 4. I had tried loads of things but eventually the National Migraine Centre suggested a triptan (I take frovatriptan) plus metoclopramide, plus Naproxen with the option of taking another Naproxen about 6 hours later to stop it coming back, as taking a triptan alone used to make it come back 24 hours later.
Most of the triptans make me feel awful for between 2-3 hours but far better than 24-72 hours of migraine. It seems to be the combination that worked, as previously triptan plus anti sickness meds didn't work, Naproxen plus anti sickness meds didn't work and Naproxen plus triptan didn't work either. Whether it will continue to work I don't know, let's hope so.
I tried many preventers including propranolol and candesartan, also magnesium and taurine, a Cefaly as both preventer and reliever, avoidance of caffeine, gluten, cheese, red wine none of which worked.
I'm a bit surprised your doctor is saying it isn't bad enough for meds, migraine is migraine and the go to is usually a triptan although 3 x 300mg aspirin can work for some people.
I hope you find something that works.
