Ear/dental pain

This is a bit of an odd one so looking for others opinions. So basically for a couple of weeks now I've had a deep ache every so often in my ear and sometimes it can feel very warm inside and even looks a bit red on the outside. I presumed I was coming in for an ear infection or had somehow got bath water in my ear. So I bought drops from the supermarket and continued on. I don't feel ill in any way and I've had an ear infection in the past and felt horrendous. Even brushing my hair near that ear was painful. This pain comes and goes throughout the day. I have also poked my ear drum before with a cotton bud and that was painful for weeks afterwards ( I know I shouldn't use cotton buds and I have stopped it now )

Now for the tooth side of it. My back molar on the top ( same side as ear ) isn't painful to eat on, can expose it to hot and cold and get no pain from tapping it with a toothbrush but something doesn't feel right. I am quite a heavy walker and come down on my heel quite hard and sometimes I'm feeling this vibration IN that back tooth. Now I've had an abscess in the past and it's the worst pain I've ever felt even opening my mouth was impossible.

So I'm a little stumped. Not sure if it's an ear problem causing the tooth pain or a tooth problem causing the ear pain??

Now I'm terrified of the dentist but make myself go 6 monthly for check ups. I called last week to be told I am due but there is a wait of months to be seen and will be nearer the 8 month mark. I don't feel what's going on warrants an emergency appointment which also means I would need to take time off my work. However I don't feel as if the ear issue needs to be seen by a Dr as I'm not actually ill or in much pain. Anyone have any ideas what could be going on?

Have your wisdom teeth come through?

SuperSange · 07/01/2024 12:28

I've very recently had this exact problem, I had an infected wisdom tooth.

Whiskyfromsmallglasses · 07/01/2024 12:34

So I don't have any wisdom teeth either through or under the gum. I had one partially erupted a good few years back and they had to remove it and also take the tooth next to it cause it had caused damage under the surface. I'm 39 just for reference

@SuperSange did that just involve getting antibiotics?

I’d be asking for a appointment sooner, tell them your symptoms, and I’d be expecting an X-ray.

SuperSange · 07/01/2024 12:42

It did, but two courses later I’m being referred to the hospital for extraction. 😬

CormorantStrikesBack · 07/01/2024 12:46

Could potentially be mastoiditis?

Whiskyfromsmallglasses · 07/01/2024 12:55

@SuperSange bugger this is what I fear!
@CormorantStrikesBack surely I would be ill or at least feel under the weather if it was an ear/sinus infection 🤷‍♀️I'm just a bit stumped
