Rash on DD's back - advice pls!

DD (2.5) had a few spots on her lower back about a week and a half ago which didnt completely go away. Tonight it is much worse - from just above bum to about 1/2 way up back, over whole area and much redder. It doesnt seem to bother her. No sign of anything anywhere else.

I am assuming it cant be viral as a) it has been around for at least a week and a half and getting worse b) not spreading to anywhere else. However if she was reacing to something foodwise i would expect it to be in the normal places (for her) ie creases of knees, elbows or face?

Any ideas? Really hoping its not food as we have enough problems in that area at the moment already. I havent changed anything else eg washing powder or anything.

thanks alot
alice

Hi, could she be getting too hot? DS gets red blotches/rash type irritation when he gets too hot.

Or maybe trousers rubbing when she bends/crouches down etc? ds is a nightmare for that going from builders butt to pulling his trousers back up again...

As for viral. It's quite possible that it doesn't spread all over the body. I once had a viral rash in my face (not particularly attractive but very localised...

I'd say go see your gp if you are really concerned.

Hope she gets 'clear' soon

thanks :-)

No, it isnt heat and it is covering too wide an area to be nappy/trousers.

Would a viral rash stay around this long? Tbh would rather it was a virus as no changes to her diet, so we would be really stuffed!

It is unlikely that an eczema type rash would show up in this area (if its not anywhere else) isnt it? (she gets occasional patches in the usual places).

my viral infection lasted a while, can't remember how long though

I'd say take her to see the gp, even though they're probably just going to tell you it's viral...

ds had moluscum (sp?) (which is viral) when he was little and the gp told me 'they usually disappear after 6 months or so'... well at that point ds had had them for almost a year! They were sort of slightly raised spots without a head and some of them had a dark dot in the middle if that makes sense. As they were viral, if one burst it would spread and he'd get a cluster. He wasn't bothered by them at all

thanks. Looks like we will be back at Gp again this week anyway (ears again - i feel another thread coming on...).

She is so under the weather now that we are being hit from all angles it seems
