After a positive fit test and some abdominal symptoms, I’ve had a raft of tests over the last year, abdominal ct colonoscopy scan, mrcp, two ultrasounds, gastroscope that foun do a small hernia. All clear apart from a polyp on the gallbladder and the hernia

I go through periods of feeling really rubbish. Sick, tired and just generally rubbish.

One of my blood tests showed an elevated amylase if 143. However no pancreatitis showed up in the scans. I’m wondering if there’s any other cause if the high amylase that could be making me feel so rubbish?

Hi OP

Did you get to the bottom of this ?

Hi @grhrn1984 never got to the bottom of this. I’d not had it retested recently but probably should.

@Halfmanhalfcake My amylase levels have also been elevated since 2018; this year, it's still at 109. I have had a colonoscopy and endoscopy due to tummy issues and have a hiatus hernia as well. I had a normal abdominal ultrasound. I did see a pancreas specialist privately who said amylase is a useless test and should only be used in A and E if a patient has tummy pain. He explained something along the lines of the amylase molecules being larger than usual therefore amylase levels are higher and refused an MRI. GP did a CA199 test which was normal and therefore said no other action was needed after the abdominal scan. I guess some people just have higher amylase levels.

@Halfmanhalfcake did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have just been recalled for repeat of blood tests due to them finding raised level of amylase. I'm having stomach symptoms but nothing severe - did you ever find out what was going on?
