Breast Biopsy Wait

So I had a lump (or more like a kind of more solid area) on my breast and got referred to NHS Breast Clinic. In the meantime, just before Christmas I went to a private consultant who did a physical exam and said he didn't think it was anything to worry about but still go for mammogram at NHS.

So I went yesterday and the practitioner did an exam and said the same - nothing of concern but go for the mammogram. They saw a lump on mammogram so ended up getting an ultrasound, biopsy and clip. Saw the practitioner again afterwards and he said he was surprised that something came up and did another exam to see if he had missed something (which he said he still wouldn't have thought anything of concern).

So he said it is more likely to be on the benign end of the scale but they can't rule out anything until results.

I suffer from OCD which makes it difficult to not get stuck in a loop of worry and particularly I worry about misdiagnosis and all the scary things you see in the media.

Anyone got any advice?
Thank you!

I’ve been where you are OP. 3 breast biopsies, waiting for the results is really tough. However each time the consultant told me that it wasn’t anything concerning, and each time they were right. Good luck x

Thank you for replying. This is reassuring. Just such a horrible worry, but I'm glad you had a positive outcome.😊

I had a hard lump, fast tracked to breast clinic and had a core biopsy. The consultant felt sure it was infection but I remember the week long wait for results and thinking it was far more than that. It was an infection and needed 10 weeks of antibiotics to clear. The following year I got an abscess in same place that burst and then was drained, more antibiotics but no issues since and that was several years ago now.

Hopefully all will be fine with yours.

It helps me to think of the way it might be if it were cancer: no reassurance, they'd be talking about it looking suspicious etc. it is the most likely outcome that it comes back fine - that is what the practitioner would expect Flowers

Hi @Renegade55 did you have your results back yet?

Renegade55 · 11/01/2024 19:28

Not yet, but I hope that's a good sign. They said they discuss results at their meeting (today) and send a letter if benign...

Any update on your results?

Thanks for asking. I'm still waiting on the letter from the breast clinic....but I phoned on Friday and said they couldn't tell me what was on the letter as it was waiting to be signed off.
I asked if they could at least let me know if I was to be coming back to clinic, and they said I'm being discharged. So that has been a big relief. 😊
