I have had a terrible cough since having a virus in November, I am asthmatic and last night the coughing was uncontrollable. I tried to get through to the surgery, but all the appointments had gone. They have said a doctor will call me some time today.

I am feeling very unwell, my peak flow is low and my oxygen saturation is varying between 92 and 93. Would you wait for a call back or do I need more urgent care?

@porridgeisbae and @MerryMarigold I will go back after this resolves, if it starts happening again- honest!

I haven’t needed the steroid inhaler since I stopped teaching (stress and constant viruses). The reliever I have needed about twice in ten years (on no steroids). The nurse said I no longer class as having asthma as it’s been so long since I had symptoms.

I totally agree people should use medication as prescribed and my other meds I’m very reliable with.

((As for seeing a doctor, in my dreams. I haven’t had a medication review for either of my two routine meds, and almost couldn’t get them as a result. I’m now afraid they’ll refuse theme, every time I renew. It’s the Wild West round here. You need blood- copious amounts of it- to get seen at the moment.))

I have a child with asthma we have rescue steroids for acute exacerbation and an sats probe for when he’s bad. We also have a written plan I downloaded from asthma uk re exacerbations what to do etc how many puffs of salbutamol and to use spacer with it. There should be an adult version too, it might be helpful for next time so you can avoid a&e, been there so many times I know how awful it is waiting. hope the steroids do the job op, and you feel better soon

@pickledandpuzzled Mine nag for all with asthma to have the asthma review every year. I get a text. GP's tend to get funding for things like that. I find it a bit annoying as my asthma is well controlled.

My GP's isn't difficult to get an appointment or anything with at all, so I think anyone whose GP is lame should change really.
