Hi all,

My close friend has been having pelvic floor related issues (nerve damage?) for about 5 years since the birth of her first child. This has worsened with births 2 and 3. Now her family is complete her GP has referred her to gynaecology and general surgery for some help. She's being seen by general surgery at the moment who have run some tests and suggested surgery might be required to help with the issues with her anorectal region. However gynaecology haven't yet seen her, I guess long waiting list. She's asked me for advice on whether to proceed with surgery if gynaecology haven't yet seen her as it might not deal with the problem properly if they are only looking at one part of the puzzle. The surgeons have said to just crack on with the operation (not sure exactly what it is as my friend got a bit confused). Can anyone with more medical knowledge than me advise if this is normal? Should my friend be pushing for the gynaecology dept to give a view before committing to surgery, or is it normal to just look at things in isolation? If she should be trying to get the gynaecology input what's the best way to go about getting that?
