Breathing rate?

When is breathing rate a concern in an adult?
I know the drill with my kids and what to look for, but I have a lingering chest infection. Finished the 5 day course on 30th - still awful cough, using the prescription inhaler (no prior asthma).

But at rest, my breathing rate has been up to 30 - 40 breathes per minute.

Calming now - just wondering if it works the same way as a child or more about SATS -?

SATS fine at 94-95.

A normal breathing rate is about 12-20 breaths/min. If it persists I would at least speak to your GP, or 111.

That's very high for an adult. Worryingly so. When my resp rate was 40, I was being taken into resus with pneumonia.

30-40 at rest is too high. Sats are slightly academic. That RR on its own should prompt getting advice from a real life HCP. (DOI: doctor)

Call 111

What's your pulse like and do you have access to a BP monitor?

Either way, I think it's worth a call to 111 tonight, or at a push GP tomorrow. Did your GP not give you any worsening advice?

Sorry for lack of update, I had a review and got more antibiotics, a telling off for not going to A&E earlier & a steroid inhaler, alongside a Chest X ray and clear guidance to follow and if no improvement by Monday to go back.

Thanks for all your help.
