Scoliosis physio

Hi. Can anyone recommend a physio for scoliosis in London? For my adult DD. Preferably not Debs Turnbull. I k ow she's brilliant. But DD was mentally scarred (I don't mean that lightly) by the brace she wore for a short time with London Orthotics. My fault.. shouldn't have pushed for it. But we are where we are now.
So any other recommendations for back maintenance. Doesn't have to be Schroth

There are 2 really good Facebook groups called Scoliosis UK and Parents of scoliosis children UK, my 19 year old DD also has scoliosis (had surgery to correct it last year) and I’ve found them invaluable for advice throughout her whole journey. I’m absolutely certain that if you posted your question there that somebody near you would be able to advise of a recommendation. I’m not much help unfortunately as although DD had her surgery in London (the wonderful Mr Gibson at RNOH Stanmore) we live in NI!

Many thanks @MaloneMeadow
Unfortunately I seem to have broken the guidelines of the group by mentioning the word 'schroth!'! I asked if anyone could recommend a physio Schroth or otherwise, and my question was disallowed!

@whirlingdevonish Really?! Schroth is spoken about and mentioned all the time, I’ve never seen it being an issue. Are you sure you’re posting on the correct group? Debs Turnbull is constantly being recommended for Schroth among others so that’s really strange. Maybe try asking just for a physio?

I will do a bit of digging for you later on as can’t remember the name right now but there is a spinal specialist physio in London that DD’s consultant recommends and refers patients to. Don’t believe he is Schroth trained but he is meant to be very good. Is it more the pain side of things your DD is looking to manage or is she wanting to try and get a bit of curve reduction as well?

Pilates & swimming were recommended to us by a few consultants and DD has found them both really helpful in terms of pain relief and building up the correct muscles in order to stabilise her back and prevent things from worsening

whirlingdevonish · 02/01/2024 18:02

Tbh we've lost hope of reduction so it's pain management.
She may still need surgery. But at the moment it's not recommended.
Yes please if you could do some digging. And I'll take another look at the fb group I posted on x

Ah ha! Removed the offending word and they've accepted the post, so let's see what happens...
Interesting that Schroth is viewed as a dirty word!

@whirlingdevonish @MaloneMeadow
Hello, I'm also looking for a scoliosis physio in London, so give me a shout if you have any reccs. Debs Turnball's name is on my list but she's the wrong side of London to me.

whirlingdevonish · 06/02/2024 16:01

@largeprintagathachristie have you managed to turn anyone up? I'm still at a loss. I did get recommended an older male physio but DD would prefer a female physio

Where are you in London?

I can recommend a specialist in Hampstead and in Kensington. I also am a past patient of Scolisis SOS who basically teach Schroth and would really recommend that too.

I do maintenance exercises daily but also see a physio every month or so. It’s really helping.

whirlingdevonish · 06/02/2024 16:27

DD is in North Greenwich but works in Bloomsbury. So anywhere in central london is ok. I'm a bit desperate on her behalf tbh so those recommendations could be lifesavers. Would you mind private messaging?

hi @whirlingdevonish

I ended up seeing Deborah Turnball. All good. - it’s a trek from north east London to Hersham, though.

@WorkingItOutAsIGo
i’d also like those recommendations for the future, if that’s ok.

MaloneMeadow · 07/02/2024 02:07

Hi all! Finally found the name of the physio that my DD’s consultant recommends - it’s Tony Betts, he practices out of Harley Street and is meant to be very good and knowledgeable with scoliosis. Hope this helps

whirlingdevonish · 07/02/2024 07:27

Thank you @MaloneMeadow . His name has cropped up elsewhere. Handily he works just round the corner from DD's work so that might work well on that count anyway.

@WorkingItOutAsIGo i have sent you a pm. I hope you might be able to pass on those recommendations. x
