I can’t stop coughing, I’m guessing it’s acid reflux, need help

I had a bad bout of coughing/ acid reflux in October and it resolved when I started the acid watcher diet. I relaxed this over Christmas and I now can’t stop coughing. I might have coughed 400 times last night (not much sleep). My throat is sore. I’m exhausted. I went back on the diet on the 27th, and took gavinature. On the 30th I started omeprazole. I took that for two days, but as I felt worse, not better, I stopped it today. I’ve looked at YouTube’s that say that acid reflux is usually caused by too little, not too much, stomach acid. I’ve been gargling with soluble asprin (also tried salt). Small meals. I’m thinking of trying bitter foods like Kale that are supposed to help stimulate digestive acids. Cough sweets don’t have any effect. Can anyone help? I suppose the GP will tell me to take omeprazole. I’m feeling pretty desperate.

I’ve seen a physicians associate at my GP practice. She went along with my hypothesis that this is acid reflux and told me to take omeprazole twice a day. Now I’m home I’ve noticed how tight my chest is (constantly) and how tight it feels when I cough, I’m reflecting that I have no other signs of acid reflux except the coughing. I’m wondering if my current problem is some kind of asthma? I’ve never had that.

Silent reflux doesnt have any symptoms and is often misdiagnosed for asthma I read. The more I learn about it the more despondant I get that it will ever be resolved

I couldn’t tolerate omeprazole. Lanzoprazole was much better.

I couldn't tolerate Omazeprole so I take Famotidine, which works OK.
I also try to avoid very fatty foods.

Chronic reflux is horrid; I ended up having two endoscopies and there was some tissue damage from the constant 'acid wash' of the oesophagus.

..sorry I haven't read the whole thread - are you peri menopausal? These problems can be linked to hormonal changes.

There are an awful lot of coughing bugs going round at the moment. Why immediately assume it's acid reflux when you could just have a cough?

It’s a totally different cough to one you get from a cold or bug and accompanied by throat clearing . Mine only comes in at night, wakes me up and I raise my head up with another pillow. You can get those wedge pillows as well.

I’m peri meno and developed reflux/cough/post nasal drip in 2020 out of the blue. It seemed to be triggered by Covid but that might be co-incidence. I did test positive for H Pylori and had treatment for that but it never really “cured me”. I take Omeprazole, anti histamines and a nasal spray, avoid trigger foods and per pp I sleep on a wedge pillow to keep elevated at night. It’s not perfect and I see it as something that needs to be managed long term. I could do better with diet as the main triggers for me are things like tomatoes, garlic, onions, and dairy. I am mainly dairy free but can’t resist the lure of a festive cheeseboard.

OP if it resolved with the acid watcher diet and has only come back because you have deviated a bit, it sounds as if that is the solution.

I havent tried it myself yet

Bit worried about how to get protein in as the low acid foods are all veggies

I found this, but this conflicts with some other sheets of foods which have the PH levels on. For example, most chicken, fish, seafood is said to have low ph, so falls into the acid category, similarly with nuts.

Have you read the book? The author says that you can eat fish and meat (he recommends chicken).
