Is it normal still to be in agony 5 days after wisdom tooth extraction?

....because I am . was woken twice last night in unbelievable pain.

to be fair it was a rather complex extraction at the dental hospital, drilling into bone to get enough leverage to remove tooth, with the consultant being called over to assist.

but still, this is reaaaaally bad.

TIA

Go back to your dentist and make sure you don't have dry socket,I think this means that the wound just heals across the top leaving a big hole underneath.

This happened to my DP,he said it was excruciating.

Discomfort yes, agony, no!

I'd call your dentist or the hospital the did it. It sounds like a potential dry socket.

A dry socket is where the clot comes out of the socket [hole], so it doesn't heal over. It won't heal without a clot.

I would say it's likely you have an infection, which will need antibiotics. It is very common to end up with an infection after you have wisdom teeth out and it hurts a lot! Suggest you get it checked out asap.

many thanks everyone.

will give the dental hospital a bell today. will have to put up with the pain today, as it's preferable to waiting ages at the hospital with a fractious 1yo . with any luck I'll be able to get checked out before work tomorrow.
