Elevated B12

I am pretty sure my doctors are a tad simple.
I mean, I'm no doctor, but I can see my levels have increased quite a lot in a year, especially since I don't take supplements plus I am a vegetarian so B12 levels are generally lower.

It says could be caused by my loading B12 injections which I had due to my low levels FIVE YEARS AGO so common sense would tell me that the drastic increase isn't anything to do with something I've not had for 5 years.

I have no idea what it is and although clearly says 'abnormal' - they don't seem to have a problem, yet my Vit D levels were down a tiny amount (probably because winter) and I got a text saying go buy supplements, but a B12 that has almost doubled and is over normal limits isn't a problem?

Anyone else had B12 levels of over 1300?

Beetlebumm · 30/12/2023 11:23

820 is still within the normal range. x

@worldwidetravel2017

Is it H pyolri?

I have terrible terrible pain under the bottom of my
ribs on the left side that goes through to my back.
I actually had a doctor call me today and I got an appointment and I'm having a whole bunch of more bloods done and a scan of my entire torso, from ovaries to top of stomach ... inc. liver, kidneys, stomach, spleen....

Is the scan an mri ? Or ct scan?
Mri is gold standard

I had liver mri and abdomen

You could have gallstones

I do - they found them

Additionally - you could have a virus or infection etc

Nah its hosmite or something. A long h word

I was told my right abdomen pain could be liver

1 in 3 people have fatty liver - i do

Left abdomen pain that i get - they told me could be IBS

Ace that your having scan and more bloods - keep us updated

Glad dr rang u

Have u ever had pancreatitis ?

Beetlebumm · 30/12/2023 21:11

Not gallstones, wrong side and I've had an inflamed gallbladder before .. not fun.

Do you mean hashimoto's disease? That's a long word beginning with H?

This is right under my left bottom rib, feels like my rib is being pushed from the inside ... most bizarre.

No
Homisistine or something

Rainbowgirrl · 02/02/2024 15:28

@Beetlebumm do you take any supplements of any sort? or multivitamins? Your B12 will certainly not still be high if you had the injections 5 years ago. Was it just a one off set of loading doses, why did you have to get them?

@worldwidetravel2017 how did your Homocysteine test come back?

One way of test for b12 deficiency is if you have a high Homocysteine and MMA (Methylmalonic Acid). If your body isn't processing B12 properly then these will show as high.

Was fine
Hosp say no b12 deficiency

@worldwidetravel2017 are you still having symptoms?

Always questions your symptoms not what the hospital say 💜

They are doing more stuff / bloods

Beetlebumm · 04/02/2024 03:58

@Rainbowgirrl

When I had the b12 5 years ago I had the loading doses in July, then one more in November. After that my levels have sat around 600. I haven't needed any more top ups. I don't take supplements. Never have.

@Rainbowgirrl

Sorry, I had them because my levels were really low at the time.

TookTheBook · 04/02/2024 06:42

OP did you ever find out the cause? Like you I have had pain/feeling swollen in that exact area! But low B12. I've had tests and ultrasound but no diagnosis or explanation.

Rainbowgirrl · 04/02/2024 21:20

@Beetlebumm is the issue that you are concerned why it is high..?

Beetlebumm · 05/02/2024 10:00

@Rainbowgirrl

My concern is the fact it's doubled in a short period of time for no reason. I think I've mentioned I am vegetarian so generally my b12 is on the lower side..

OP posts:
worldwidetravel2017 · 05/02/2024 10:02

Your b12 can be up if you have a bug , infection or virus..

Mine was mad high when i had ebv / glandular fever

Rainbowgirrl · 05/02/2024 10:03

Have you started supplements, vitamins or changed anything in your diet like added anything new in..?

Beetlebumm · 13/02/2024 08:47

@Rainbowgirrl

Absolutely nothing has changed, no supplements, no dietary changes, no virus/infection, nothing that would explain the dramatic increase.

OP posts:
Rainbowgirrl · 13/02/2024 09:36

@Beetlebumm i was looking at your OP but cant quite make out the dates and the b12 levels its quite pixelated.

Are you able to list the date and b12 readings?

Do you have any b12 deficiency symptoms? I know you mentioned something about your rib is that still around?

Just to be clear my levels were 2000 and i was still experiencing symptoms of deficiency. With b12 you should not go off the number you should act on symptoms.
