Strep infection related to eczema outbreak

My nephew suffers very badly from eczema. I've just heard he is in hospital on a morphine drip to control pain because of a strep infection in the eczema. He has to suffer until astaff have identified the bacterial strain and chosen the right antibiotic.

I know nothing about these things. Can anyone tell me how common is this? Will he recover well?

I've spent a couple of years as a student paeds nurse, it's fairly common but I've never heard of a child that has been given a morphine drip because of the pain. He should recover once they have worked out what antibiotics to give him, it's normally flucloxacilin for skin infections, he could have picked it up from anywhere and put it into his skin when he'd been scratching his eczema. I hope he's feeling better soon.

Threadworm - strep infection can give arthritis type symptoms too so it maybe that he got his infection through the excema but now has the reactive arthritis which is very painful. I had this after strep throat.

There's also a condition called psoriatic arthritis which I think can flare after strep infection.

Hope he feels better soon.

Ahh, perhaps he has this. Sounds horrible. Hope you are all better now Saggar.

Thanks to both of you. It sounded so scary for a 12yo to be going through. But it sounds like all will be well as soon as they can sort out the anti-bio.
