Aching and stiff in the morning

I'm 30 years old and since having DD 8 months ago when I get out of bed/walk downstairs in the morning I am so stiff and achy, my legs, feet and lower back mainly.
It eases after a few minutes but I just wondered if this was a normal thing or something I should be concerned about. I feel like an old woman sometimes 😅 and I feel like I should be able to just jump out of bed and get on with my day but I can't.

If you were 15 years older I’d say normal, but it’s a bit unusual at 30. Is there arthritis in your family, or are you v overweight? I would mention it to your Gp.

caringcarer · 19/12/2023 23:29

I'm 62 and I get this, especially in the winter. I went on holiday recently and it was quite hot and I didn't get it on holiday so I'm thinking it is to do with the cold damp climate we in the UK have in the British winter.

Stumbleine · 19/12/2023 23:33

Are you breastfeeding and/or co-sleeping?

MummySS22 · 20/12/2023 10:47

I've been getting this since m son was born. He's 18 months old now. Its not just when I get out of bed either, if I've been sat in same position for a while I get it too especially my knees and lower back. My GP isn't bothered and says it's probably from my c section 🙄 I am v overweight and am classed as obese. I'm trying to lose weight because I know this will be contributing to my pain. I'm also being investigated for fibromyalgia and hav had all the rule out tests. I'm same age as you also xx

I had this really badly after my first child at age 23! So not an age thing it's a hormone thing. U think it takes between 6-12 months for the relaxin hormone to normalise after birth. Second child in my early 30s I don't remember it being as bad.

lollydu · 20/12/2023 11:01

With me it was my knees and ankles that were the worst. And it does wear off after you get moving but even when I had been sat on sofa for too long and got up it was bad. X

TheLongpigs · 20/12/2023 11:02

What weight are you? When I'm heavier I notice this much more!

floofbag · 20/12/2023 11:02

I've always had joint pain , the best way to alleviate it is to do
Morning stretches .

Ditto. I feel a new year diet coming on 😔

TheCryptozoologist · 20/12/2023 11:08

I am 53 and have fibro and arthritis, I cannot even get out of bed before taking my painkillers😪

cortex10 · 20/12/2023 11:37

It's taken me years (and a low carb diet) to conclude that gluten somehow makes my joints ache. Eliminating it has really put a new spring in my step and I definitely feel the impact if I lapse. I haven't taken it any further regarding allergy testing so don't have absolute proof however.

faithtrustandpixiedust · 20/12/2023 20:36

Thanks for all your answers, glad in a way to see it is quite common!
To answer a few questions:
No arthritis in the family that I am aware of,
not overweight, holding onto a bit of post baby weight still but average bmi,
I am not breastfeeding but am co sleeping most nights, It isn't any different on those mornings where I've had the bed to myself though,
This is my second baby, I briefly remember having this with my first but it only lasted for the first couple of weeks I'm sure.

I did have a section this time round so I was wondering if it could be to do with that and the fact I still don't have great core strength, I think if it's still happening in the new year I will contact the gp

I had really bad body pains after my DD2 especially my shin bones, everything would really ache in the morning. Had bloods turned out it was vit D I was at 9 I think, so super low. Maybe get some bloods done

SoIRejoined · 20/12/2023 22:28

Is it possible that you have PGP? It usually starts in pregnancy but can start after birth, and it's when your pelvic joints aren't working properly. It can be treated by a physio or osteopath.

faithtrustandpixiedust · 20/12/2023 23:26

Thanks @Cocothebear I had bloods a few weeks post section due to high blood loss and low iron but I've no idea if they'd have checked vit d, I'll defo ask

@SoIRejoined I actually had this throughout my third trimester but I had no idea it could remain after pregnancy, I had physio and nobody ever mentioned that it could continue to cause issues! I have the number for the physio I was under during pregnancy so I'm going to give them a call tomorrow

how long does the morning stiffness last? Do you just feel stiff in your back/spine or in other joints too?

faithtrustandpixiedust · 28/12/2023 20:22

@MrsTopaz it varies to be honest, sometimes it's eased by the time I've got downstairs and made breakfast, sometimes it's a couple of hours. Occasionally my hands but not very often so I'm not sure there's a link there, mainly feet, ankles, hips, lower back.
