Dizziness and almost passing out

popgoesperfection · 19/12/2023 20:33

For around 6 months now i've been suffering with dizziness that comes on from nowhere. its not every day and when it happens it can last from any where between a couple of hours to nearly the whole day. I tried to book a gp appointment but could never get one so thought maybe its vertigo and managed it best i could myself. however in recent weeks i keep almost fainting at random times in the day, waiting for my eldest outside school, having my eyes tested at the opticians and even sat at my parents having a conversation. i'm ringing the gp every day to try and get an app without any luck but will keep persisting. whats going on, any ideas to what could be causing it?
thanks

Low B12 or low ferritin maybe?

I have low blood pressure which causes dizziness, but not all day.

Low ferritin previously too but again this wasn't constant dizziness.

I wonder if you have an ear infection as that can be more persistent in terms of feeling dizzy?

Are you eating and drinking enough?

Also could it be related to stress and anxiety - I have panic attacks sometimes which can make me feel very shaky and dizzy

Sunshineclouds11 · 19/12/2023 21:38

Low iron maybe?

freshgreen · 19/12/2023 21:50

Maybe PoTS.

I would explain to the surgery that you are extremely concerned and need to see a GP as soon as poss or you will need to go to A&E. Getting a BP machine is a good idea. Would also help the GP to assess you. Take the reading, wait about 4 mins and take again. Also note the pulse rate.

Since 2020 I've had two long periods (weeks long) where I've had this - and also intermittently at moments on odd days here and there. The first was 6 weeks after my 2nd COVID vaccination. Do you experience any palpitations leading up to or during those moments when you feel you are about to pass out? This is what I experience. Going back to that first bout I had to lie on the floor (or ground if out walking the dog) - this horrible sense of impending doom seemed to descend when I was feeling I was going to pass out so it felt safer to get on the ground to avoid falling. I wore the blood pressure monitor I had to try and catch what was happening - often it was in the late evening when I was sitting down - my BP monitor showed my heart rate dropping down to 30. I had a 24hr monitor fitted and they picked up that I had short periods where there were two heartbeats very close together - one normal one and a weaker one almost immediately after - this was probably why my heart rate was being measured at almost exactly half of my normal heart rate (my monitor counted that double-beat as one beat) which is actually quite low anyway - resting is in the range 52-62 for me. My sister - a medic - confirmed this with an audio monitor she had that allowed us to listen to my heart - you could hear these moments even at times when I couldn't feel anything unusual. I had these problems for about 6 weeks and had to stop driving for 2-3 weeks as I felt so unsafe but it gradually cleared up. The second period came after a week of viral infection - I hadn't been eating or drinking much and this was very likely part of what contributed to me actually passing out twice - this was the opinion of a hospital doctor. My blood pressure fell to 85/58 even when I was lying down for an hour (normally 120-130/80 for me) Have you been ill lately? I would keep your fluid intake up for a start - I'm always being told I don't drink enough. I still get the odd moment when, out of the blue I have a few palpitations and then have this feeling I'm going to pass out - I never do but it feels like I'm very close to that happening - this sometimes happens (it's rare) when I'm driving which is very worrying - I just pull over straight away. I think this might be when I'm tired from a bad night's sleep or if I have driven too long - I can't manage more than about 2hrs any more - I also worry about this happening when I'm driving so I think anxiety is a factor.

Wear you blood pressure monitor and see if you can catch the moment you feel off and see what you find out.
