I've been having a his fo quite a whil, I go through phases where I feel like I can't get any air. I'm not gasping for air by any means or panting. I just feel like an air hunger all the time and the constant need to take deep breaths or yawn to try and get some air? Does this make sense to anyone? I have bad health anxiety as well but I know that this is real, it's not in my head, granted the sensation of this air hunger does send me into a meltdown. I've mentioned it to my GPs several times and they dont seem concerned. Anyone else experiences down thing like this?

Thiamin (Vit B1) deficiency!

Interesting. How can I get tested for this?

Sounds like hyperventilation syndrome, I had it a few years back. Anxiety sets it off but you don't have to remain anxious to experience its symptoms. I had to actively train myself to breathe normally again.

You could do with upping your B12 levels.

Might help, and won't harm (there's no upper safe limit - if your body doesn't need the B12, it just passes out).

I've experienced B12 symptoms at that kind of level - only started healing once my numbers were over 1,000. That's quite a common experience, no matter what doctors say.

How did you get on with the breathing exercises mummyss22?

I have been trying them out today, I've been focusing more on breathing for my nos as I tend to do alot of mouth breathing. I've also been focusing on breathing techniques through my belly and not my chest, its extremely hard!
I have not I ed though that my air hunger is always worse in the morning and if I'm too hot. Which is strange.

I'm a qualified breathwork facilitator. I would say the first thing to do is to spend 5 mins just noticing your breath, don't try to change it. Feel it enter your nose, be curious about how it feels. Have your hands on your chest and abdomen... Feel what's happening. When you inhale your ribs expand, to make space for your lungs, your diaphram is dropping down. The first thing to do is connect.

You can't change your breath if you don't understand it.

Do this multiple times a day. Connect.

Then once you feel you have a handle on what's happening, then you can try a steady inhale, you might like to count it, go to where is comfortable. When you exhale, slightly purse your lips and exhale through your mouth. This will help you to extend your exhale which will calm your nervous system.

Hope this helps

@MummySS22 I know this post is very old but did you ever get to the bottom of this/resolve it? I have a similar issue
