Conjuctivitis - I seem to have caugh this from my ds and it's not improving

Ds had a mild bout of conjuctivitis about ten days ago. It wasn't a bad episode and the doctor gave him some eye drops. I kept him off school and it cleared up really quickly. In a couple of days it looked much much better.

Last week my eye started to look red and sore. I had been careful around him but I might have picked it up from ds (lots of cuddles). It also might have been an irritation from my contact lens.

Anyway I got some eye drops too from the doctor a couple of days ago but mine isn't improving like his did. I look awful - like I've been punched in the eye. My eye is red and swollen still. I've just boiled some water to bathe it with.

Is there other medication I should be asking for yet or am I being impatient? I look like I've been in a fight On the odd occasions dc have had it over the years they always seem to have responded faster than I seem to be to treatment.

I want to wear my lenses again. And makeup. And not look like Frankenstein's mum.

I'd go back to the dr. My dh had conjunctivitis a couple of years ago that didn't respond to the standard eye drops, and got progressively worse. He was off work for 8 weeks as his eyes were so swollen he couldn't open them! V scary for him.

DH also wears contacts and wasn't sure whether the infection was picked up from ds or as a result of his lenses. Apparently there are two different types of conjunctivitis, bacterial and viral and the normal one kids get is bacterial. But dh's was viral so normal eye drops weren't going to work. Had steroid drops in the end which really helped.

Your words "I look like I've been in a fight" rang familiar alarm bells! Don't want to worry you unnecessarily but if it still hasn't improved after the weekend I'd go and see your gp again.

Good luck xx

Sometimes drops don't work if infection is not sensitive to them, you may need oral antibiotics as well. Maybe see dr early next week or ask pharmacist again,

Thank you kind mumsnetters . Good advice. I'd forgotten that indeed there are two types aren't there? I think this has more to do with my lens tbh. Ds was well over his when this started with me.

Hey ho. If it's not one thing it's the other round here atm...
