ds woke at 5am this morning with blood all over his face, it stopped quite quickly, but don't mind admitting it freaked me out that a nose bleed could start while he's asleep.

he seems fine, but a little pale, just put him down for a nap. anyone else had this/similar happen?, i have no nose bleed experience, it's not happened to me, dh or dd before.

All my dc have nose bleeds. They take after me when i was younger.Don't worry about him having one in his sleep. My dc often woke up covered in blood.Nose bleeds can make them a little tired and pale.
I have been to a&e so many times with ds1 when he was little.(he is now 20).But only because we couldn't stop the blood. His nose use to bleed like a tap on full.I was told if we couldn't stop it bleeding in 20mins to take him to a&e.He has grown up fineYou may find your ds coes down with a cold. It's the blood vessals in the nose that bleed that makes a nose bleed.

both mine have them, as did I when younger. Ds1 10 is growing out of them. ds2 aged 3 has prob 2 a week still. good advice above, nothing generally to worry about but 20mins heavy bleeding needs a&E.

my ds(6)gets them too, he's had three this week. could me the humidity caused by heating that makes them more common in the winter. it's awful isn't it.

Mine all have nose bleeds when they are unwell. They take after DH.

The most important thing is to make sure they sit up, head tilted forward a bit, and pinch the nose for at least 5 minutes. When it happens at night it is always worse because they are lying down and therefore bleed more heavily.

IME mine always woke up, and I got them all well trained in dealing with it.

AS MM6 says - if you can't stop it in 20 minutes you need medical help. They do seem to outgrow it though.

DS1 gets horrendous nosebleeds, very heavy bleeding for 15 minutes or so. They sometimes happen spontaneously but usually when he's banged his head or nose. We took him to the GP, who asked us questions related to other symptoms (which he didn't have) & told us he probably just had weak blood vessels. I'm afraid I can't remember what it means if they have the other symptoms (or what they are! sorry) but it's rare anyway.

They can be scary though so you have my sympathies.
