Hi all,

I was just wondering has anyone experienced severe nausea/vomiting with starting this?

I’m on a good cocktail of medication anyway for various conditions, but have been fine with them, the last fortnight had really bad nausea/sickness (feels like morning sickness- 100% not pregnant) and the only difference I can think of is starting Amitriptyline.

The NHS website doesn’t state it as a side effect but was curious to see if anyone has experienced it.

thank you :)

I take it and have had nothing but positive from it. Is it worth asking your doctor if the issue is combining it with one of your other meds?

That’s a good shout! Thanks @MyOtherProfile

Yes. I had to get up in the early hours, because of it. I fainted and broke several bones, and also pulled a muscle in my back. I ended up flat in bed for 10 days, and had to have carers in, due to it.
The A&E medics told me it was a common side effect.

I've experienced similar with other strong painkillers. I seem to be particularly sensitive to anything that has a sedative effect, so codeine, Tramadol, Gabapentin.
People advise that you get used to them, but, after all that, I'm not willing to try!
Have you experienced similar with other painkillers?

oh my gosh you poor poor thing! That sounds such an ordeal :(

I have never experienced it before, I am on slow release morphine and have a cocktail of things including Gabapentin, but never had this.

The minute I’m out of bed I’m overcome with nausea at home, then if I am then going to work I’m really sick.

It is the only thing that has helped my deep bone pain though and I don’t have many other options - mainly because I’m on a lot of things long term so this is the only medication that could be added in :(

I would have thought that 2 weeks was long enough to get used to them.
My GP explained that, as muscle relaxants, they would be more effective for Osteoarthritis than other types of painkillers (even though they're actually anti anxiety meds).

How have you recovered now?

Ah that makes sense! Do have lupus and been on other anxiety meds such as duloxcetine and mirtazapine to help so this was the only thing left as I didn’t want to add even more opioids in.

i think maybe if I take it earlier at night I hopefully won’t feel as bad in the morn 🤞
