H Pylori treatment - anyone had this and want to share their experience?

After several years of really suffering with many gastric issues my new GP ordered an H Pylori test and it came back positive.
I have collected my prescription today for Clarithromycin, Metronidazole and Lansoprozole.
I also bought some probiotics. I have worked out my schedule for taking them.

Clarithromycin on its own at lower doses makes me feel grim, particularly with nausea and insomnia, so I am not looking forward to the next 7 days!

If you had this treatment how did you find it and how was your recovery afterwards?

Do check online that the dosages are all correct for you on all 3 meds

@FlowerBarrow yes I spoke to both the GP and the pharmacist. Having been wrongly prescribed penicillin before (I am allergic) I am always cautious about prescriptions now. I’m confident it’s the right dosage.

DH had to do it. No problems with the drugs. No discernible difference in symptoms afterwards.

I had clarithromycin, amoxycillin, and lanzoprazole. My treatment was for 14 days. It was not pleasant as I had diarrhoea from the clarithromycin and barely made it to the loo on several occasions due to the sudden onset.

However I stuck it out, and had the stool test four weeks after treatment was complete to see if the infection had been eradicated, and it was thankfully.

I had no typical symptoms weirdly enough. The H pylori was diagnosed as a result of hospital admission for a gastric bleed, (black tarry stools) which was from a perforated ulcer caused by the HP. I will be taking PPIs for life now, but that's ok, better than the alternative! I feel great again so it was worth it.

The bleed though caused serious anaemia, and I had to have blood transfusions, and later an iron infusion. So it can be serious! But all is well again now.

I had it in July. The clarithromycin gave me a bitter taste, but other than that I tolerated it ok. Was found on gastroscopy but previous stool tests had not shown it so no follow-up testing.
i think the high dose of lanzoprazole helped the reflux, but Dr said not to stay on it afterwards as too high - and long-term it gives me awful wind/diarrhoea so unmanageable. Just managing reflux with diet and gaviscon advance.

@lesdeluges yes my mum had perforated ulcer and now lifelong issues as a result. She was diagnosed with pylori shortly after it hit the medical community in the 90s so had probably been suffering with it all through the 80s. I remember her collapsing from anemia and needing treatment for it.
Her life is ruled by her illness now. I am obviously keen to avoid that!

@Goatymum yes the Clarithromycin affects me too. But I am happy to take the bitter taste if it’s the only side effect I get!

@AudiobookListener I’m sorry your husband didn’t seem to benefit from the treatment. It does seem to be an issue for some people.
