One , potentially 2 migraines a month i can manage

But today is day 3 of pounding head - migrane // hormonal migraines

Yes im no stranger to one or 2 a month

But this is day 3 in a row :(

Bad yest
Real bad yest pm - took ibroprofen 330pm.
Pain eased but was back before 7pm

Went to bed with pain
Woke 4am with pain - head pain.
& needed loo.
Slept til 8am - head pain on waking..

Took paracetamol ^

3 days of this :(

My mum had bad hormonal migranes from late 30s

I turn 37 this month :(

Do others get them this bad // this continuous ? :(

Right side of my head pounding
Front of head sometimes too

Hoping to eventually start some part time work again next yr
But @ start of next year i already had 3 hosp appts incoming soon for some other things

And obv when in a new part time role - i cant take time off each month for bad migranes

I have to take the pill back to back for 3 months at a time, then have my 7 day break with the inevitable headache/migraine - it's shit Sad

Cezarette. Bloody miracle.

No periods, no hormonal migraines.

BluebellsForest · 15/12/2023 09:03

Have you seen GP and tried the newer medications? If they don't work you should be referred to a neurologist, but that would likely take a while now.

The Migraine Trust have lots of helpful info: migrainetrust.org/understand-migraine/types-of-migraine/menstrual-migraine/

AnnaMagnani · 15/12/2023 09:11

Problem with triptans is you can't take more than 2 a week (6 a month) without risking overuse headache.

Which is not helpful when your migraine always lasts a minimum of 3 days. I have to pick carefully which day gets a triptan as recovery from overuse headache was horrendous.

OP you are going to need to see your Gp for both triptans and a preventer medication.

Not entirely true. I have max 10 per month in agreement with neurology. Also, the treatment for hormonal migraine is to take triptans (frovatriptan - the slower and longer acting one) preventatively.

If your migraine are also hormonal, please see the NICE guidelines as you may not need a daily preventative for predictable attacks.

Try 3 soluble aspirin and 2 soluble paracetamol in a glass of full sugar coke. I was told to take that, at first instance, by the National Migraine Centre . I, do, have Sumatriptan on prescription too.

Another thing to try is acupuncture. I have it every 2-3 weeks. It really, really helps. I have chronic migraine, and can have up to 15 a month, but the acupuncture has taken the frequency and severity down.

I had almost the exact journey with migraines.
3 day ones which started as an adult.
Frovatriptan was amazing for me. And the menopause.
There is hope!

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage Flowers

Thanks so much

Its been hard - we were super lucky as tmi
But we concieved 2nd cycle trying

It may of just been unlucky
Or may of been a progesterone issue

Ive had ct scans, urgent MRI etc all recently - and have some other conditions and issues that we didnt know about 4 months ago

I had hormone and fertility tests this yr and last yr and live in hope that we still have a chance @ our happy ending

Once ive dealt witb

  • another colonoscopy.
  • a fibro scan 4 liver
  • some gynae stuff
  • a chest thing / check.
  • an abnormal information / cancer marker

Im hopeful we can try again - hopefully from spring

Thankfully i don't have liver cancer - that was last months big worry - i have a lesser liver condition

This is similar to my approach to migraines too - along with an anti sickness pill. Sometimes swop the sugary coke for lucozade and I take pills rather than soluble because that would make me vomit. Ibuprofen doesnt work well for migraine.
