dry itchy red skin on ds1

ds1's 2.10 and has never had skin problems before. Over the last day or so, however, he's developed a 'belt' of dry, itchy skin around his waist. It started at the front and has now spread round the back, where it is worse - looks red. He's been in a different brand of nappy for the last few days, and the 'belt' appears to be just where the nappy starts - is it likely to be that? His bum doesn't seem to be affected. Would Bepanthen cream be any good for it, as I know we have some? TIA

Definitely sounds like the nappy. Try the Bapanthen or Sudocrem?

Thanks. Would be handy if Bepanthen helped as we are in Germany and have no idea what else is available here. Off tomorrow to restock on his usual nappies. Although I'm surprised - this is the brand ds2 wears (albeit a different size) and is fine with.

He may have a slight allergic reaction to the nappy - so it wouldn't necessarily follow that because ds2 is ok, ds1 will be.

Some barrier cream (vaseline or the like) should stop contact between the nappy and his skin for now, and bepanthen, sudocrem or even some E45 cream should sort out the rash.

Thank you. I know there's no logic in thinking what's OK for one will be for t'other, but I was quite happy with these nappies overall and am a bit now as to what's in them.

I remember trying out a different nappy with dd2 whe she was younger and she got a rash within a day or two!

I wouldn't worry as far as ds2 is concerned... if he hasn't had any kind of reaction yet, he is unlikely to.

Besides, it may not be an actual allergic reaction, it may just be that these nappies are tighter on his waist, or the way he is moving makes them rub or something.

Thanks they use those nappies at kindergarten too, will have to provide them with a stash for him.
