Veins in breast

My left breast is significantly more veiny than my right. I am very pale skinned and honestly it could have been there forever but I'm in a hypervigilent state as have a breast clinic appointment on Monday due to some nodular tissue in the same breast (although to be fair both breasts are a lumpy and rope-like nightmare after stopping breastfeeding earlier this year.) Any reassurance? Can this be normal? My left breast is less fatty than my right which might be part of it I guess. Urgh. Have got myself in a state about it after reading prominent veins can also be a red flag for cancer.

thanks!

Sometimes my veins are more visible than others, don’t know why.

HeyJupiter · 12/12/2023 17:35

@DustyLee123 Thank you. Mine are definitely more visible on both breasts when warm etc but my left one has some really prominent ones (but that breast is sort of thinner and ‘saggier’ generally)

I'm fair-skinned and have prominent veins in my breasts. I'm in my 60s, have regular mammograms, and have never had a problem.

@HandyLittleGadget Thank you! That’s reassuring. Can I ask if your veins are symmetrical or more prominent on one breast? It’s the asymmetry that’s concerning me I think.

@HeHeyJupiter I had the exact same issue in March and was also seen at the breast clinic, mine was also my left breast which was a lot venier. The doctor didn't even flinch when she saw it and said it was totally normal. I was so relieved, I also had an ultrasound whilst there for a small cyst and the technician doing that also said the vein was nothing to worry about. I'm not sure how old you are but I was told it was usually women who are older and it's still very rare for a vein to be an issue. Hope you're okay, I know how worrying it is but I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine!

@Littleroundsponge thank you for your lovely reply. It really helps. I’m so glad your story ended well 🙂 I’m 38 with two small children and after a combined 5 years of breastfeeding I’m hoping it’s just my breasts have been left a bit worn out/lumpy and the veins have maybe always been there but I don’t usually check so obsessively.

I'm pale. You can see the veins in mine but they were significantly more prominent in the brief time I took the pill.

No problem, hope it's given you some reassurance. Thank you, I'm sure yours will end just the same! You're still young, I'm 37 and was told it's generally women in their 50's/60's where a vein could be something. I'm sure that's what it will be, breasts can look so different after breastfeeding and as we get slightly older. It is so common to have veiny breasts and as you say you weren't looking previously so wouldn't have noticed. Wishing you the best of luck, you will be fine!

@HeyJupiter let me know how you get on. I'm sure you'll have good news and a great Christmas!

Tanfastic · 12/12/2023 19:54

I have a very veiny right boob compared to the left. Just had a routine mammo no issues.

HeyJupiter · 18/12/2023 14:20

Hi, just an update (in case anyone finds this thread in the future!) All fine, just normal glandular tissue which is more prominent in one breast. Phew and phew. Thanks for all the support 🙂

That's brilliant news

Littleroundsponge · 19/12/2023 00:34

Amazing news, so happy all is well!

Breasts are never symmetrical in any way ever unless they're fake. I wouldn't worry that at all.
