Suggestions please for feeding sick toddler

My little one (2.2) has got a tummy bug. Got frightened earlier today as he got pale, floppy and hot and couldn't keep anything, even water, down.

He's better now and the GP said likely to be a virus. Trouble is, he's asking for food, (pleading for food more like it!) yet can't keep it down. I've tried rice cakes, which he's promptly brought up and yoghurt, same result.

I'm just going to give him water now, but anyone ideas about food for tomorrow that is unlikely to upset his tummy gratefully received.

Thanks, FM

these are very common I 'm afraid and you'll find lots of threads if you do a search. Some people swear by the BRAT diet -banana, rice apple toast but I don't know if it works or not. I would stick to very plain stuff, small amounts, and definitely no dairy or citrus/acidic stuff. If he is keeping fluids down now that's great - some sugary drinks like ribena might be good.

BTW the fact he is pleading for food is a very good sign!

starchy foods like plain pasta, potatoes, toast, bananas, etc are all good. Avoid dairy and make sure he has plenty of fluids.

Thanks very much - I didn't know about no dairy - and I will try those suggestions.

Poor little chap. I'd try some dry toast.
also, sometimes I wonder whether low blood sugar from being so sick can make you feel sicker (I often throw up when I have low blood sugar) so you might want to try giving him sips of some very dilute Ribena as well. At least the sugar will help give him some energy.
