When to see a doctor with flu symptoms

37 replies

Symptoms started just over a week ago with a bad cough which developed into a rattly chest with coughing up lots of phlegm. Then last Saturday I started feeling more flu-y and I've had a fever and chills plus body aches on and off. This morning was awful with full on cold sweats, seems to get better with ibuprofen but still going hot and cold. I'm miserable now, never had something like this go on for so long with no improvement. No COVID tests in the house so maybe need to get hold of some.

When I was going for my second appointment, I was asked to do a covid test first.

@BeadedBubbles
Being COVID + and having a chest infection aren't mutually exclusive.

evenbarnyardanimals · 09/12/2023 11:46

If you're feverish, coughing, rattling chest OP, definitely need your chest listening to.

Hbh17 · 09/12/2023 11:52

A doctor can't do anything about flu, so it's just a case of waiting for it to pass. What doctors call "therapeutic use of time".

Chest infection diagnosed and antibiotics prescribed, taken the first dose already, hopefully they kick in soon!

@evenbarnyardanimals - I think you misread my post. I said there was no point in the op going to the dr if she has Covid unless she has a potential chest infection Confused

ItsJollyTime · 11/12/2023 07:32

How are you now op?

NoNeedforALlama · 11/12/2023 17:10

Much better thank you, still feeling a bit breathless if I do so much as make a cup of tea but far better than I was!

Hi op, just checking how you are now

NoNeedforALlama · 16/12/2023 09:20

Nearly back to normal, still got a cough but I rang the GP to get signed off for an extra week because my job is quite physical and I didn't think I'd cope and they said the cough might last a few weeks.
