Good posture exercises for rounded shoulders?

Recently I've really been wanting to improve my posture. I've a tendency to rounded shoulders which I think is partly genetic and partly as I'm tall and letting my shoulders "slump" has been a habit for years. But I really would like to do something about it and have been trying consciously to stand with my shoulders back, shoulder blades pulling towards each other, straightening my neck and holding my head upwards. So far so good - when I remember to do it!

Does anyone know of good posture exercises/routines which might also help? Thank you in advance!

I have a posture corrector which really does help. I wear it while doing housework

Deal: Posture Corrector For Men And Women, Back Brace Posture Corrector, Shoulder Corrector To Prevent Hunchback, Back Straightener Posture Corrector For Relief Back Pain,Spine Corrector To Improve Posture amzn.eu/d/380qcFr

Also strengthen your lower back and core to support good posture.

I keep meaning to do Pilates too.

I have the same issue but without being tall sadly !

The key thing IME is not to try to pull your shoulders back, but instead try to stretch out your chest.

Take a deep breath into your chest and let it puff out like a pigeon, and make sure you look ahead rather than down while doing this. You will find your shoulders naturally go back and down as you let the breath go.

Doing a doorway pec stretch can also help - hard to describe but if you google you’ll find it.

Try to do this every so often especially if you have a desk job. Obviously less screen time will help - phones are particularly bad for this as we look downwards and have our hands very forwards.

Thank you for these really helpful suggestions.

Yes, unfortunately I do typically spend a number of hours each day sitting in front of a screen on a desk. I've been thinking about getting one of those chairs without a back which make you sit up straight.

I've also spent the odd half an hour working standing up trying to keep a good posture with my laptop on top of a higher bit of furniture.

Just search posture exercises on Google. There are loads of sources.

I was looking up this very thing tonight. One suggested exercise is to stand up , put your arms behind your back and grasp each elbow (or forearm if you can’t manage the elbows) and hold for 30 seconds. This pulls the shoulder blades back and will strengthen . Really easy

I would second the doorframe pec stretch as well

Thank you for all these suggestions which I am trying/will try out.

It might make you smile @minipie to know that I have regularly been telling myself "imagine you're a pigeon" as I've been walking about! 😅
