Prolapsed disc recovery - exhausted

I’m 2 weeks into recovery from a “large” disc extrusion (so the notes from hospital mri say). I’be got to the point where I’m not on painkillers in the day but on low dose amitrypiline and tramadol at night. I’m just absolutely exhausted though. I’m trying to eat well and make sure I move enough by moving around the house but will suddenly just hit a wall and feel so fatigued and almost lightheaded with it at various points. Is this normal?

Almost like having a virus actually headachy and aches but then I’ll be ok again

Surgery was this?

i always struggle hugely after surgery. I suffer from dizziness afterwards and all I’ve ever been told by medics is it’s my body’s way of telling me to slow down.

surgical recovery isn’t linear and it’s not the same for everyone. Personally at only 2 weeks out from a big surgery like that (and all the meds you’re still on), I wouldn’t worry.

@SpottyCrumpet thanks so much for replying. No not surgery just a wait and see/ physiotherapist approach. Also I’m not sure if it’s just because I’ve had physio today I feel like my body is in total collapse every ounce of energy has gone. Maybe it’s the same ethos as you are saying though and my body is telling me to rest.

Ah yes sorry.

ohhsio is absolutely exhausting, you’re pushing through pain barriers for a start and working muscles you haven’t done as protection etc. my friend had a car accident and was having intensive physio for over a year, she said it was utterly exhausting.

It’s probably because of the injury and the pain but there is a small chance that it could be a side effect of the amitrypiline? Probably not since you are on a low dose but other disc sufferers discuss not tolerating it in a patient group I’m in (I have just been looking into it as an option due to my own herniated disc).

it's the pain. the pain.is exhausting

@Chocl8 that’s interesting I’m on 10mg and have been for the full two weeks. I know it takes a while to build up so unless it’s cumulative affects are kicking in now. Or perhaps just two weeks of stress and pain. Thank you for replying though I felt really anxious last night as my whole body just felt really weird.
